You guys blow me away... "I seriously want to leave this site more and more when I see this question". Newbies don't know the answers to these questions and may not know to search. I personally have used the search and it doesn't pop-up everthing that you all think it will. On our kart forum I NEVER see people flaming because of redudant posts, the new guy needs to know. If you don't want to help, don't post anything. You guys seem to be stuck-up snobs... you've got an Xb, not a freakin' BMW. Help the new guys or DON'T POST!!
Sorry Digger, but you havent been on as long as some of the others (im a relative Noob) Windowtint has been on here a long time. Digger...you've been on the site less than 15 days. You dont know how often this question comes up. This, and "Can I do an engine swap on such n such" or the rambling "thug" who talks about "how he wan dis tite set of dubz on his ride n wants 2 bag it 2 tha ground". its just really annoying. i said im sorry for ranting off (and no it wasnt edited, i knew it was probably out there when I typed it). and i did give help bud... it was the "SEARCH" comment I made. its not my job to look up posts for people who didnt know how.

Maybe it's time the site moma's create a coupla pages for each model that regurgitates some of the answers to the questions that get asked over and over. The page can say what the factory tint % is, what min/max wheel size you can put on, muffler, towing answers, y'know, basic stuff.

The site is fine. And I find, with the amount of posts and threads, that the search is actually pretty decent. I agree with the questions and such and no one takes my advice. whenever i think they should sticky something, they dont and we get wasted posts. the wheel and tire thing.... kinda already covered though. that is a sticky and people still ask the questions. i guess thats life. i just sometimes need to let off steam.
stock is around 20%. mines at 22% according to police measuring. but for some reason, that has ranged from 18-22%. i dont know. i guess just diff. conditions.

2% difference could be accounted for in different material batches and measuring equipment calibration.

yea thats what i figured on diff. calibration machines.

right now your backs are at like 20-25 light coming through. 5% means basically none is coming through. are you going lighter??? you cant change out the colored glass unless you go with JDM Windows from the bB (windowtint can verify this too. hes the only guy in the states with the clear windows on all). i think you mean you want to go in the other direction. it just sounds funny because it seems like you have the light transmission %s confused

He's knows what he's THINKING - just explained it a little skewed, which is a little normal to do. He just go the percentage numbers backwards - instead of going down the scale towards 0.00 (blacked out), he went UP - thinking "50".
UBOW - if you add 15% to the rear windows, your final reading will be about .03 (i.e. 3%), which would be just a touch darker than standard limo on clear glass.
I didn't address it earlier (in part becuase I was kinda trying to avoid writing in yet another tinting thread), but as far as the different TYPES of film - that is fairly irrelevant to the darkness of the film. It doesn't matter if it's an all dyed film, metallized, hybrid, ceramic based, graphite sputtered - whatever... 20% is 20%, 35% is 35% and so on. Those numbers mean nothing more than the total amount of ambient light that transmit through the glass. - BUT - the poster was on the right track somewhat. Some film have a better COLOR match than others - and sadly, it's usually the lower quality, cheaper dyed films. Those films are fine if you don't mind having the replace the film once a year becuase of quick color fading issues - some don't mind, and that's fine I guess. The metallized films tend have a glossy look to them, and can look a little "different" when used next to the flatter black looking rear glass. Not a big difference, but some people are that picky about it. That's fine too I suppose.
And as SSL said - if you want to go LIGHTER - you're going to have to import JDM glass (major $ and 2-3 months) -

You are right. I get them backwards all the time. It is so confusing... especially when some manufacturers rate their tints inconsistently. Some give in light transmission, others in percent of darkness.
That is why, especially on this one topic, I think one page on SL should be devoted to tints. Links can be made for DIYs and Tech articles for doing your own windows and tint mfrs and cutters can pay to advertise their product.
Another page can be devoted to lowering/lifting/air bagging with advertising by the companies that make and install the products.
Don't forget pages on body work, paint and dents, including decal install (not window decals).
The best posts on these subjects can be lifted and put on these pages (judged by the moderators and advertisers). This would give all visitors an easier time to find info.

I am a forum vet on 4cycle.com and I'm in the top 4 for having the most posts. The main reason for having so many posts is that I don't hesistate helping someone that wants to learn more about karting and learn from someone that's been around. I guess I'm spoiled from that site, we don't flame anyone for wanting our knowledge and are free to give it out.
If the moderators don't like what we say and they lock this thread, so be it. I just won't come back. I'm in this for fun and don't need it. The people in kart racing aren't like this at all. On 4cycle we are free to voice our opinions as long as bad words are not involved, since there are many kids on the site.
It's just a totally different evironment over here.
