im not a mod so im not the one locking it. they could leave them up and get postwhored, but usually they direct them to one of the other 40 threads that also answer their question.
in this case... a lock would be good now though

e.g. - 35% BRONZE - LOOKS much lighter than 35% dyed Charcoal/Smoke - although it's not - it's the exact same light transmission level, it's an illusion of sorts. The eye perceives different colorings as be different in darkness - although they aren't. Your eye will tell you one thing, but a laser meter will tell you something entirely different - that they're the same DARKNESS (and the meters right, not your eye).
As far as two of the 'same' films being side by side at a shop and looking massively different - and the only difference is SUPPOSED to be one is dyed and one is not .. I'd lay a months gross shop income that the film are NOT a valid comparison. For whatever reason they are comparing to totally different films to each other (most likely as a sales ploy they believe will work). Many shops actually put films up on the wall and label them all one shade lighter than they really are because film looks lighter inside (i.e. 20% is labeled '35' , 2 layers of limo labeled as 5%... etc).
Different shops all have there own reasons for doing whatever it is they do - and the cold hard truth about the business is that 80% or more of the people in it are total slimeball scam artists, they all know that can put 20% on your car, tell you it's 15% or whatever and you'll know no different (you wont) - and many do do that. Unless you know the guy really well, take anything a window tinter tells you with a grain of salt (make that a whole shaker). - me included - you don't know me... I might be just feeding you line of total crap
. As I've been accused - I'm just here 'cuase I got something to sell - but I suck at that too since I keep giving stuff away and keep neglecting to sell anything.(getting a little O/T)
The shops that have the multiple lines of film all side by side are just trying to capture all the market they can. They actually WANT the junk cars, the people that think window tinting is a negotiable price item, the tire kickers and the yellow page price shoppers. They carry low end film to get the cheap people and beater cars, they carry high end film to get the "i want the best" crowd and to make up-sells - which is more common than the latter. If you carry the chep dyed film you can qoute really low prices on film and when they come in tell them that "for x-amount MORE you can get THIS film which is so much better!" - bait-n-switch scammers.
Most people haven't been on this site for a long time. I've been here for 17+ months, and seeing the same question over and over and over again grates on a person.
Darren should make more tech pages with information about all this stuff so we could just post links to the info instead of screaming "SEARCH, NOOB!" He should also make the search function search for all terms by default, because right now when you search for something like "halo headlight xB" you get every thread with "xB," every thread with "halo," and every thread with "headlight." A little website work goes a long way.

I've worked retail for years, and I've heard the same questions asked over and over again... Yet I don't feel the desire to scream "OMG NOOB" at my customers. That's life, and this is a community. We're here to exchange knowledge and help each other out.
Now that's out of the way, I too would like to know about brands, now that I have a better idea of the percentages that was stock on the xB. I'd like to do the same tint on my xA.

+1 for my man Windowtint! Always here to help and thank you for helped me. -1 for Sexyscionlover! Why "lock", I will still like to know what brand name for the film. They should LOCK Sexyscionlover for posting useless reply. You not help answer the question is ok, you ranting is ok but not telling mod to lock this when there are ppl that still need a reply for the answer of a subject here. The search engine doesn't work well for me. I try to look for a simple topic and it pop up 100 of pages.
By the way today is Fouth of July. *cough* Freedom *cough*. Happy Holiday!

ahhh SSL is ok. I was the first person to post after him and I was taking his side (and still understand what he meant with the post everyone's getting onto him about...) it's all ok. I'm just in shock that for some odd reason it's not ME that's being hammered on... first time for everything.
As far as the questions regarding BRAND. To be honest, it doesn't really matter what BRAND. To be honest ALL films fade eventually. Dyed films just do it a LOT faster than others. Metallized may just take 7-10 years... but they do, eventually. The thing to keep in mind is that it is just a big plastic sticker after all... everyone wants it to last forever, and it's just a thin layer of plastic. No one complains when they dirty up their $150 detail job in 3 days - but heaven forbid their $79 dyed film crackhead installer special doesn't last longer than the car.
As a rule of thumb - Dyed films, expect them to be noticeably changed in about 1 year and will require a redo within 36 months. Metallized/Hybrid films with proper care will last 7+ years. My buddies 96 Camry has a non-dyed film on it since it was brand new and it still looks like it did the day it was installed (by me).
But BRANDS are fairly unimportant as long as you get a good warranty (some will in fact cover fading - ask for it) and you get all the CORRECT paperwork. If all you get is a store reciept - your warranty is worthless the day the close up or you move out of the area. To make a warranty OFFICIAL you will get the store reciept AND a MANUFACTURERS issued warranty card that will be filled out entirely (no blank spaces!) including all the roll #"s off the film rolls used.
I would not worry so much as to what BRAND I got - after a certain qaulity level, they're all more or less the same, some just cost the tint shop more than others to buy. After a certain point the only differences in film are only apparant to the installer and would mean nothing to the owner (things such as how fast before the glue tacks up, how easy it shapes, what direction the film is rolled onto the roll [liner in or out], etc...)
And of course if your film is illegal - you have no warranty, don't even ask for it. No manufacturer will stand behind it nor will most shops.
