Default A tC driver's xB experience (Journal, lol)

The Story:

So the story begins, my tC is broken, the throttle body is being replaced, and my transmission is being inspected, the lowdown is, I have a while till I get my car back so the dealership gave me a loaner car. A little Polar White, brand new xB with 2,000 miles on it. 6-Disc, carbon fiber trim, blah blah blah.

Day 1: So you got stuck in an xB...

Well I got to the dealer around 6:00 PM yesterday, and went to the sales cashier to claim my loaner, my xB, as I walk outside, the thought came to me, I'm gonna be stuck in a toaster. So I prepared myself, but nothing really prepares you for this. I unlock the door, while my friend sitting in his IS300 watches in amazement. I look down and my first sight it, an automatic, I shudder, I immediately knew it was gonna be a long long day. Well I start the car, no exhaust, nothing like my tC, very quiet. My friend gets next to me and rev's his IS300, in response I rev back and sigh. Well me and my friend part ways I pull out of the Toyota dealer, and again let down, I try to accelerate to merge and again, I'm let down. But at the same time, I love the roominess of the xB, very open. So I head home, I get on the parkway, and again, getting passed by cars that would normally not be able to was depressing but it was fun to be in the box, not very maneuvarable but damn amusing with all the looks, I got looks in the tC but this wasn't different, people were just surprised to see the box.

Finally, I arrive home and park the box. I am standing on my porch looking down and to my amusement, I was plotting what I would do to it, if I owned it, I saw myself putting on different wheels, putting in a L shaped couch in the rear, etc...quickly I stopped myself from these random dreams. That was the end of Day 1.

Day 2: Off to work I go, oh dear...

So I get in my box today and begun my drive to work, knowing I would soon here the laughter, I work at a Ford, Jeep, Mercury, Lincoln, Honda, Suzuki, dealer, dominated by Ford of course. A big Ford F-250 rolls in next to me, one of the many service guys, he simply laughs, and walks away. Thus far, its the beginning of Day 2. Its gonna be a long long day.

Overall Experience Thus Far:

The xB can not compare to the tC in comfort, drive, performance on any level but at the same time, I like the roomy feel to it. Not to mention it amuses me and its so noticable people can't help but watch it. And theres just something about it that makes me like it.

welcome to our world.

haha. yes, the box is definitely not anything like the tC. the xB was designed with an economical, maneuverable, city car in mind. the tC was based off of the european Avensis platform and designed solely by Scion.

remember you had a completely stock box. they're great even like that, but if you ever get around to modding one, it becomes something totally different.

cheers.

End of Day 2: So we went...

Well at lunch we did a burger king run, there was 3 of us, with ample room in the xB, tomorrow we have our "big lunch" and it'll most likely be 5 of us in the xB but I really don't see having any fitment issues. Roominess wise I love the xB, so far the only major issue I have is that its an auto, and I still drive it like a tC, the weight on top plays a major roll, especially in turns, a tighter suspension would make the xB outstanding to drive, along with some more power. Other then that I drove home with no issues, more staring from people, and a little smile on my face, there'll be an update tomorrow, as we roll into Day 3, of the xB experience.

You can not compare the auto xB to a manual--there in lies your response problems.

On the drive home from the dealership people passed me, got on my tail, and slowed down in front of me just to look at it.

I liked the attention at first but then it got agitating. Another thing that ____ed me off was this bmw that delibrately stayed on my butt because I was hitting ALL THE BUGS and keeping their car clean.

Needless to say I pulled over very obviously just to let them pass, then merged back onto the road.

When I first saw an xB in 2004 I thought it was the ugliest car ever. Now I own one and I love it!

I think it handles great for such a tall vehicle. That is because the wheels are at the corners (like a Mini) and it is quite low to the ground (compared to wagons and SUVs). The ground clearance is probably not much higher than your tC. It is not a sports car and if you don't drive it like one, it will handle well. But it still handles much better and is more stable than SUVs.

^^^ hell yes. i really get annoyed when drivers tail you and then you get up to corners and they have to slow down considerably becuase their driving skills / SUV's aren't able to keep up around the bends . and then they race back to tail you ... rinse and repeat -_- "

Day 3: Morning hours bring humorous showers...

Well on day three I awoke to pick up my friend and drive to work, again the usual drive, but today I used the windshield sprays for the first time, with hilarious effects. I was at a light, sprayed to clear off the windshield, and to my amusement, the person in the car next to me got hit directly in the face with one of the streams. Suffice it to say, I could not contain myself or the hilarity of the situation, however the driver next to me was not so easily amused. lol, still the morning hours of day three, more to come as the day progresses.

You know it!
Our boxes really stick to the road!

Oh, and DelayedTurbo's shower story was a side splitter! Gotta love those wide-adjustable triple nozzles!

It's good to get the perspective of someone who's not been overcome by the same box obsession all the rest of us have...

For some reason I'm thinking of Tod Browning's Freaks. Gabba gabba! We accept him, we accept him! One of us! One of us!
