Thinking about getting rid of my xB and getting a new Rabbit
yep my car is turning three next month , and now that i have a new job and am making more money im finnally getting sick of driving a nice but kinda slow car, cause im a sculptor i need some space for transporting my works to and from the gallery so im thinking about getting the new VW Rabbit (2 door)
Curious if anyone here has experience with VW and could give me their 2 cents on my plan.

i hate it! i dont like vw's! But i do think the vw GTI 6 speed is pretty nice.... I work valet part time. I drove it. It was fast. It was turbo'd. If the xb didn't exist, i still wouldn't buy it. lol. I don't like any of the other vw's at all. They sound like dumpling steamers.
vws are great. I have a buddy with a 2 door. great thing is a base model is the same price as a base moble 06 xb! and you get 150 hp, 170 lb or torque, german engineering, all kinds or airbags. I might get hte wife a 4 door gti with the dsg in a few years when we need a new car, if she doesnt want a suv or audi
I hear mixed things about VWs, but all of my experiences have been great! Now - I have had TWO Rabbits over the years and I LOVED them both! The first one was taken away from me after a kid rear-ended me. I sold the 2nd one when I decide I was DONE with working on/restoring cars - it was a cute little convertible.
Repairs and Maintenace run a little higher on VWs, but you repair much less. I know VW went through a stage where the quality had slipped, but I understand they upped their standards again. I would not hesitate to get another VW (as a 2nd car - I LOVE my xB).

i had a 2002 gti and loved it. the engineering and fit and finish on a german car is unmached by any other cars. japaneese luxury cars try to be european, not the other way. also the new rabbits have very nice styling in my opinion. I love the big grill, although audi's, the A3 mainly, are still sexier
you say you need space, but what has more room than a xb... well i guess you could get like a mini van or ecoline. before i got my box i was thinking between a xb, rabbit and a few others. but so glad i got the toaster
Wait...you need space, so you're getting RID of an xB and buying a two-door Volkswagen?
You sure you don't have that backwards, son?
2-doors are a gigantic pain in the ___, any way you slice it...unless you have absolutely no cause whatsoever to get into the rear of the vehicle.

my sister bought the rabbit last summer shes LOVES it has never gave her a single problem very well built germany car feel to it which makes it feel like a higher end car when drivin at highway or city...its also has great handling, its probualy the best hatch for the money...
and trust me the 2 door rabbit has very good leg room and space in the back seat
the 2.5l 5cyl motor are pretty quick and a turbo kit is already comin out for it from Neuspeed..they will have good aftermarket support

As far as CARGO room goes, you want an xB.
For comfort room you might consider a VW. I am a big girl at 5'10" and the Rabbit, as well as any VW has always been very comfortable for my tall leggy frame. The xB is NOT that comfortable to me - the seat is too short for my femur . Long trips are fatiguing (I am going to try the seat mod mentioned somewhere in this board. The print out is right here).

If the problem is lack of power, get an xB . . . version II! (Scion clearly should have called it something else!!!)
DUDE!!! If you really want space and also to get rid of your "kinda slow car" trade the xB on a 2nd generation xB. It has even more space thatb the first xB and 50% more power. The rabbit has very limited space for hauling sculptures....even less space that the 1st gen xB. Think before you act!!!
get an 08 xb! bigger and more power and you can stay in the scion family. or an xd even!
vw's look nice, but last i recall, they have the lowest consumer confidence in the us. and european cars are expensive to work on.
my dad has an 03 porsche cayenne s. a seventy thousand suv built by porsche, owned by vw. that thing is a freakin piece of crap. it has been to the dealership countless times for repairs, porsche even feels so bad they have extended its warranty to 8 year/ 100k miles, and my dad still regrets getting it. in 24 thousand miles, it needed a new transmission. he only drives it when weather prevents him from driving his vette, or he needs more cargo capacity. and now even the dash board is weathering. he is trying to get porsche to buy it back from him.
if this is how porsche/vw fit and finish and mechanical reliability is for a $70,000 suv, how good is one of their three vee-dubs under $17,000 going to be?
find out at your own risk, i just know i'm not going to find out first hand.

I know Volkswagens. I have driven Volkswagens. I have owned Volkswagens. They are fine cars, and certainly faster than an xB.
But if you want the most usable space and dependability, stay with a Box.
If you go with the Bunny, don't do a 2-door -- you'll regret it. The standard 5-cylinder is not all that fast, and it doesn't get the kind of mileage you'd expect.
If you can afford it, do the tubo. And for a few $ more, the GTI is terrific; I hear the 4-door GTI is coming to the States soon.

I have owned three vw's. An original rabbit, a tdi Jetta, and a gti. While I love vw's I gotta say they are more trouble than they are worth. They do take a lot of repair and the cost to fix them is as almost as bad as my old mercedes.
