vw has improved sufficiently over the new mkv lines in bein relieable these cars have been in europe for years and no one has reported major issues with them..remeber the new mkv are built in GERMANY not mexico like the older mkiv and mk 3 which were the ones with the eletrical problems but go on VWVORTEX.com and find out for yourself...

ALSO the new rabbits use timin chain not timing belts(what xb uses)which means u never have to change the timing belt on it

they also dont require power steerin fluid due to the electronic steering so i dont know how maintance is a issues all u gotta do is change the oil and spark plugs with time

vw's look nice, but last i recall, they have the lowest consumer confidence in the us. and european cars are expensive to work on.

my dad has an 03 porsche cayenne s. a seventy thousand suv built by porsche, owned by vw. that thing is a freakin piece of crap. it has been to the dealership countless times for repairs, porsche even feels so bad they have extended its warranty to 8 year/ 100k miles, and my dad still regrets getting it. in 24 thousand miles, it needed a new transmission. he only drives it when weather prevents him from driving his vette, or he needs more cargo capacity. and now even the dash board is weathering. he is trying to get porsche to buy it back from him.

if this is how porsche/vw fit and finish and mechanical reliability is for a $70,000 suv, how good is one of their three vee-dubs under $17,000 going to be?

find out at your own risk, i just know i'm not going to find out first hand.

actually the cayenne s shares the same platform as the vw toureg but it is def not a vw..vw does not own porsche at all they share ideas together but they dont build cars for them....now vw does have to do with the fastest production car in the planet which is the Bugatti Veyron and bentleys

A little off topic, What do you sculpt? I'd love to see some of your work if you've got a website. I'm from the OC too and I do drawings and own a T-shirt company. If you're interested we can sculpt you a custom T-shirt or we could cross promote stuff so you can get a couple rabbits

I'm always looking for other artists to work with!

That'd be awesome until the warranty is up. I'll never own another German car that isn't under warranty unless it is a 1992 or older VW.

Check VWVortex for more info...

yeah, i'm aware that the cayenne is a rebadged upgraded toureg, it is at the core, a vw chasis assembled in the same bratislava factory. a $70k dollar vehicle shouldn't be going to pieces like this. since this is a porsche and not a vw, it should be superior to the vw version in fit and finish and build quality. so i shudder to think how well things would be going if my dad got the v8 toureg instead of the cayenne s. my dad hates having to use it because something else usually goes wrong and he has to take it back to the dealership for more work.

no, the MK V GTI is made in Germany. The Rabbit is made in Mexico.

Actually, IIRC the new Rabbits are only made in Germany. I did a ton of research on them last year when I got rid of my 2000 Golf GLS. If that's still the case you should be fine as the ones made in the motherland are the most reliable. I found out the hard way the the worst to best go as such:

Worst: Brazil
OK: Mexico
Best: Germany

Guess where my Golf was made,.....Yup, Brazil. I think my neice's '00Jetta was too.. both of our cars were plagued with endless problems. This is only my personal experience and I'm no Auto expert but all the data I gathered just before I traded in my VW for my xB had me second guessing myself about another VW. Don't get me wrong, I wanted the new Rabbit as well but just remebering the high cost of maintenance and repair on my Golf was enough to make me switch back to Toyota. God I miss driving my Golf, but I hated being broke all the time. Also the xB IMO has character.

Bottom line, do some more research (i mean dig and scour the net) and you will find the truth. I think the Rabbit's been out long enough for the facts to surface. Good Luck.

i ABSOLUTELY HATE THE SECOND GEN XB so thats out, i took a tape measure with me when i checked out the VW rabbit coupe and found it had the exact same amount of hauling space probibly because the rear wheels flare out and not into the interior.
