Thinking about getting an XB, what are your thoughts?
Like the title says I'm thinking about getting an XB. Mainly for my wife but I plan on driving it occasionally. I'm a jeep guy myself so I really don't know much at all about these cars or the engines in them. What do you like about them and what do you dislike about them. If you had to do it all over again, would you still get an XB. Also we're debating between the Xb and the Xa. I for one like the look of the XB better and like that it's roomier but the wife isn't quite sure yet which one she likes. Tell me what you think?
well if it's for her get what she likes best , lol both are great little cars , theyre no speed demons but they get good gas mileage have pretty good style and come with most all you would need in a car. if she can drive manual try and persuade her into buying one cuz the autos kill the little power they have , a simple quiet free-er flowing exhaust and an air intake will raise gas mileage and improve pick up considerably , they have no problems getting in and out of traffic but theyre not street demons at all , know what i'm saying? hope this helps , and if she like /u like any of teh options try and get them aftermarket , you will save a buttload of cash.
I would get what she likes, but she can't make up her darn mind and it looks like it's going to fall on me to decide in the end anyway. Good thing is that she perfers to buy the 5speed over the auto.
Also what did everyone end up paying after all was said and done. I feel that I'm not getting as good as a price as most other people would. Mainly cause I'm stationed in alaska right now. The XB with like no options is looking to be around 14,430 after financing and registration fees. Is this about the normal price that most other people paid, or would it be worthwhile for me to fly down to California to buy one and drive it up.

All Scions are sold at sticker price and are a "pure price" (see: no negotating). This is good since they're priced well for what you get, and you know you're not going to end up having a salesperson take advantage of you.
Of course, that being said always pay attention to added dealer fees and make sure the financing guys don't try and pull a fast one on you.
For an '05 manual xB it should be $14,245 plus any applicable sales tax and dealer fees.
edit: my typo, $14,245 for '05 manual xB with no options.

actually 14315 after floor mats. i believe the 14425 is auto with no floor mats. and not getting floormats means u have to special order one. my car was 14315 and then additional 7 yr 76k warranty and the gap insurance . after that and tax and license it was 16,2xx out the door.
They raise the price $50 of the box as of this month I belive.
Hopefully I'm getting my xB tonight.
Ride is a bit bouncy, it's underpowered, but it's got a ton
of space and is quite fun to drive.

It is a fun car to drive, but the ride is quite stiff. I need to drive it about 2000-3000 miles before the ride improve. I think the car is under power and needs power mods. You should take your wife for a test drive to see if she like it.
Many rattles have been reported, but most can be fixed underwarranty. The rattle will show up in a few week after you buy the car. I'm not sure if you can ask the dealer to fix it before it happens.
The engine runs fine with no problem up to this point. It takes about 3-4 seconds to start in cold weather, but it starts anyway. I have more engine noise and vibration at idle after I install a short ram.
If you plan to mod the car, this might be the car for you because it has tons of upgrade options (although not as many as Civic's)
Regardless of minor problems it has, I still like my xB.

Currently we drive a lifted Jeep Cherokee, so I imagine road noise and and stiffness will be nothing compared to what we're used to. It'll probably feel like driving a new caddy after driving this beast for so long. We just test drove it last night, and started the paper work to buy but the dealership needed my wife to get proof of income since she's self employed and I had to go to work so we didn't have enough time to buy it last night.
I paid $16700 for my original XB. Door sill enhancements, Strut bar, floor mats, automatic, spoiler, fog lights, 6 disk. I added OBX pedels and AEM intake afterwards.
I would've liked cruise control, intermittent control on the wipers, an arm-rest, map lights, rear 12V.
I loved the style of the XB. It was flawless in mechanical operation for the 18K miles I had it. Mileage wasn't EPA, but it wasn't bad either. I was always looking for little things to do to it. Super fun. Not the best for soft off-road outings with the scouts.
I paid $15900 for my Outlander. Cruise control, roof rack, alloys. It came with an arm-rest, map lights, rear dome light, 2 12V outlets, intermittent wiper control, lighted glove box and more seat adjustments. Just more little ammenities that the Scion didn't have.
What the Outlander doesn't have are ABS and traction control standard! And those are 2 biggies that the Scion has.
Different cars, similar prices. The XB was slower, but got a little better gas mileage. I'm paying about $4-5 a week more in gasoline now. The XB is provides a more stiff ride, but was just as at home at the local pizza place as at the Hilton valet. I feel like the Outlander has a little less VIP style, but is more at home on those dirty camp trails.
Drive a lot of cars. Use Scion as a base anywhere you go. Dealers will cringe when you say you can get a car for under $15K with ABS and traction control!

Well, we took home our polar white scion today. 60 month plan with payments of 325. Not too bad for as ____ty of credit as I have. I've got one bad ding on my credit record that's been haunting me for years now, and I was actually surprised that I was financed. Although come this friday that ding on my credit will be no more because of my tax return. Wife drove it home since we mainly bought it for her. Being curious myself I took drove it in to work tonight since she won't be using it at 3am I hope...lol... Drives smooth, and is actually quicker then I thought this little 1.5L engine would be. It's no speed racer, but that's not what we bought it for. We bought it mainly as a family car since we have 2 kids and something that would be comfortable to take on road trips. (since we live in alaska and nothing is ever close). I think it drives great, feels fun and was shocked when I went to pick up some chicken wings for dinner here at work and the first thing the girl at the counter said to me was "Nice Scion". Kind of made my night, and made me glad I bought the little thing. So I'll probably see all of you more now that I'm officially an owner. Now I gotta see what kind of mods I can do to this thing to make it a great little trip car/van/box thingy on wheels, or whatever you wanna call it.
