Thinking of purchasing a partybox
IMO, these things remind me of a car to bring to parties and such, so I call them partyboxes. Now I already own a new subaru baja, but since mom need a 4wd car for next year she anyway needs to get a new car. Well we eventually came to a deal that she could keep the baja which already has 10,000+ miles and has scratches all over, and I could get a new scion. (I am spoiled and dont even have a drivers licence yet, I will be 16 in auguest) Now I am worried of some things, and also have questions out of curiosity...
Any known problems with this car yet?
I am a little worried since this car is 100 hp less than my baja. Does it spin tires, and what can I do to gain hp?
I will be taking my pioneer head unit out of my baja and put it into this one...is there already an adapter kit out there? How many passangers can this car hold?
I see a lot of people lower these cars. WHere can I get a lowering kit?
MANUAL OR AUTO? I have driven a manual passat b4 so I know how manuals are, but how is the one in the scion. Is it hard to replace the clutch after probly 70,000 miles? My parents say with manual cars you always have to adjust linkage and stuff on them.

They aren't "fast" but they are certainly fun to drive and don't feel slow at all, at least not to me.
No offense to the automatic owners, but you'd have to be insane to get a 1.5 liter strapped to a slushbox....
I can't stand automatics PERIOD, but if I'm sentenced to drive one, there had better be a 200+ hp V6 or better bolted to the other end of it. Automatics suck the life out of the motor and reduce its responsiveness. It's especially bad if you don't have tons of torque.
Not to mention a huge part of the fun in driving tossable little cars like this is chirping out and revving the ____ out of them between gears.
Definitely get an manual transmission. You gain more than 1.5 sec in 0-60 time and that counts for a lot when we are talking the difference between single and double digit 0-60
Blitz makes a supercharger, others make turbos. There will be a big aftermarket, HUGE compared to anything anyone has seen for a compact Toyota in this lifetime.
If you are genuinely interested in going faster, I suggest you not dick around with cold air intakes and exhausts that give you 10 hp for $1000.
Just get serious and prepare to drop $3-4,000 for a supercharger and perhaps a big intercooler. That should get you into the high 6 second 0-60 range. Not ultra fast, but blazin compared to stock and more than enough to surprise the ____ out of the ricer in the 92 Civic automatic with a triple stacker wing at the traffic light next to you :twisted:

Four BIG adults fit easily. Two big, 6 foot 5 mother____ers can sit in the back and stretch out. 3 normal sized people will be just fine. The back seat room in these cars is no joke. If you've seen then then you know this.

The clutch should last you more than 70,000 miles if you know how to drive. Even if it doesn't it's not hard to replace. You'll want to upgrade it anyway if your going to forced induction.
Your parents are right about adjusting linkages....sort of. You might need them to tighten things up after 60-80,000 miles MAYBE. That will cost you $150 or so if that.
Ask someone how much automatic transmission service costs, or how much it costs to REBUILD an automatic. Tell your parents this: Overall, anybody who knows will tell you that manuals are *much* more reliable, last longer and are much cheaper to maintain and repair than ANY automatic. A manual is just simple gears and cables and a clutch. Very little that can go wrong. An auto transmission is a super complicated mess of hydraulic pressure valves and plates and conduits all controlled by computers and ____. It's a nightmare to repair and take apart. Simple to drive, but complex as hell to work on. Automatics are for old people with no passion. Get the 5 speed, you're a young buck. Live a little. Girls will think its hot when you snap those shifts off and a manual makes even a slow car seem sorta fast.

Don't listen to these hosers, they just haven't learned how to drive an Auto correctly.
If you do it right it goes just fine. It has more than P & D. You'll never miss a shift and look like an idiot. You never have to worry about grabbing the stick if your chick's grabbin' yours. A lot of it depends on the type of driving you do. If you spend a lot of time in stop and go, its a no-brainer.

Listen bro (or sis I don't know which). There are many reasons to get an auto trans. Some of which you are too young to hear about. All I can say is this. Try resting your arm on the the window ledge on a gorgeous day while you kick back and steer with a few fingers and pump up the tunes with a manual transmission. It can't be done. Try eating drive through on a road trip with your buddies or putting your arm around your girl friend (or boy friend) with a manual. It can't be done. Just ask yourself how you want to roll. Both ways are good, but I'm thinkin that after I put a super charger on my auto that I'll get the best of both worlds.

no problem and i have 19" wheels. There are kits avalible for the scion now.If you want to cruise get a auto (i have a manual) i drove both but i had already ordered mine before driving. The auto will be more useful in most cases, the manual will be way more fun and costly in long run.Tires are costly. As far as upgrading power
greddy kit is avl. as are a few superchargers. Heck i still cant decide what i want to do.For lowering there are almost 20 plus options now avail. for the xb(guys please dont make me listem)as far has who most have used it would be spy springs.
and no i dont have them on mine . As i will be doing air hopefully soon.
In closing please ask as many questions as you wish that is why we are here.

Test drive both, auto and manual and get the one you like...
As far as power increases just look around the power hungry forum...
And I wouldnt change the stereo, its perfect...

Shouldn't you be revving the ____ out of it while you're in gear
In a small car like this, I wouldn't take anything but a manual transmission. The auto robs more power than a manual will and has 1 less gear. If you're used to a turbo baja and you step into an auto xB, you're gonna to notice a fairly large difference in acceleration.
Doesn't a turbo baja do 0-60 in the mid 5's? The xB will be a lot slower, especially with the auto.
I wish Toyota would grow some ***** and throw the MR2's sequential box into the xB :twisted:
