LOL I read that whole article about the Prius VS the Hummer and I was thinking; okay this is a good article but what does it have to do with scions....... Then BAM! At the very end I see a picture of a xB and they mention the xB is at the top of the list. It is almost like a golden surprise at the end of the article.

Wish I drove a box. I don't agree with all of the points made, but it was nice to see an xB on the top of the list.

the study was flawed..as I see it

109K...there are many hybrids out there with more than 109K on them

I've read of more than a few making it past the 200K mark
from my perspective..his numbers are way off

aint nothing new!

But this guy is wasting his effort. It doesn't matter how much he proves hybrids are not environmentally friendly. NOBODY is going to listen. "The country gives people tax breaks for buying a hybrid so they must be the answer. If they weren't, the government wouldnt give me money back for doing so."

People will believe what they want to believe and the unintelligent people buying hybrids thinking they are being economically friendly will still think they are doing the right thing when they aren't and the government will keep giving them money back for doing so, further establishing their false belief.

it's dumb.

What I don't understand is: how this guy proposes to make a claim SO big with a "home fashioned", "backyard" science report. I think he has his mind in the right place, but is not using the correct resources.

As nice at the xB comment is, I'm amazed that study is still being talked about. It has been disproved in every possible way. The Prius/Hummer comparison in it is complete and utter BS.

In particular the claim that a Prius will only last 109K while a Hummer will last over 300K. Toyota warranties the batteries on a Prius for 100K or 150K depending where you live. And the highest-known-mileage Prius had over 330K (with the original batteries) before it was in a wreck.

this report was nothing but a blatant piece of anti-hybrid, pro-SUV nonsense written up by a marketing company, not any kind of scientific organization.

I am surprised that people who own and drive Toyota-based xBs here are so willing to believe that the Toyota-build Prius is barely able to make 109K and is not as good a car as a bloated SUV made by GM (who is struggling in every possible way to sell their their trucks and has been losing customers to the Japanese for decades).

Meh. I have heard this before. they say the energy required to make the battery is more wasteful and worse for the earth then gas. idk, maybe. but then again, i really dont think a hummer is any good idea.

everyone should just drive smaller, more efficient cars.woo.
