Default Tinting over factory tint?

I dunno if this would go in interior or exterior, so I just posted it here. Has anyone tinted over the factory tinted windows? I want to get limo tint on my 06 BSP xB, so 5% in the front, and 20% back. I was told by the tinter that I wouldnt be able to see out of the windows because of the factory tint, anyone know from experience?

How many days has the tinter worked? You can see, its dark, but you can see. Get a different tinter.

Thanks a lot guys! I don't know how much experience the tinter him self had, but I know the shop its self does the best work ive seen. Ive had a few cars tinted there, when I was stationed in GA I had no choice but to use a differance place, and I ended up with bubbles in my tint . Hopefully I can find a nice place when I get down to TX to get my windows tinted.

I would reccommend removing the factory tint and having new tint the darkness that you want installed (for the front windows if they are factory tint ...as this tint is applied mylar just like what you would have installed). The rears are tinted in the glass so tinting over should be clean and easy (no removal necessary here). The darkness will be what you have already + what you add. You might try getting some of the material you think you like (1/2 a back window size perhaps) and tape it over the center of the rear window. Drive around a bit at night and see how the visibility is. It is much better to make a choice you like before you have the tint actually applied.

If you add to the factory back tint you lose the radio antenna functionality, correct?

It depends on the tint. Some films have metallic particals to aid in blocking heat and that's what hinders reception.

To answer the original post; I just tinted my rears last weekend with 20%. I'd say it's about the same as 5% tint applied to non-privacy auto glass. It's darker but I can see just fine in the daytime. At night lights are still plainly visible but as is excpected everything else is darker.

Mine got 5% tint on the rear doors to the hatch. My front doors and windshield FULL FACE (not inforced on Guam) is 20% or so and I can still see outside. I only darken the rear and the front is still dark enought from the ouside view.

Eh!? I didn't know about this. The tint I was going to get is the metalized tint, because it lasts longer and doesnt turn purple like the cheap ____. I'm moving to hot ___ el paso, tx and i dont want to have purple windows... Theres no way to bypas this?

My roommate has been tinting for about 6 years and he explained to me that the "metalized tint" will only interfere with AM radio reception. They do make tint that does not interfere with AM radio reception but it costs a lot more. Hope that helps you with your decision.
