Toyota Auto Care Prepaid Maintenance Cancellation
I know I probably got screwed, but I'm going to be canceling my Toyota Auto Care Classic Prepaid Maintenece package. The dealer said it would cover oil changes, tire rotations, and 15k and 30k maintence, but when I got my booklet it only covers oil changes. When buying my xB I went over the booklet with the dealer on this package and he said not to worry our computer will have all those other services in their for you.
The package was for $699 for 3/36,000 ("cough" rip off).
I bought with my xB with the 75/75,000 Platimum Extended Warrenty and GAP Insurance. My last car was a Chevy Cavalier that broke down a lot and the warranty paid for more than it was worth. I wanted the same coverage with my new car even though Toyotas are heck of alot more reliable. (Better to be safe then sorry from my previous experience)
I called Toyota Financial and the rep. told me the prepaid maintenance is a rip off, but GAP and Extended warrenty are O.K. The rep. then transferred me the Agreement Administrator (as the previous rep was for finance) and this rep. gave me the dealer speech it locks in the maintence prices of you car, and they do more then just change the oil they inspect all the major parts, and lube the chaisis (sounds kinky). Does anyone believe they really do all that with the prepaid maintenance 3,000 miles schedule?
Anyway did any one have any trouble terminating their prepaid maintence agreement? All they said was to either fax or mail a letter with my vehicle information on it saying I want to cancel it. The reps said my montly payment will still be the same, but my overall loan will be $674 lower ($25 if cancelled after 30 days.) That's ok had my XB for about 2 months (runs great) and plan to add some mods.
Thanks

As far as gap goes check with your insurance agent and see if they offer gap. It might be cheaper. it was for me.
Since you will lose the $25.00 to cancel and you will probably lose the sales tax you paid as it is over 30 days i would get a pencil and paper and add up the costs.
From what i understood the prepaid oil and service pays for oil every 5000 and the 15,000 30,000 and 45,000 service. All of which you will need proof of to keep your other warranty valid. So add up all those costs from the dealers web site or call the service dept and see what you would have to pay. It might also pay for tire rotation i am not sure.
When i did the numbers it came out about even as the dealer charges double for everything so i just canceled it and would pay as i needed it.
You are probably better off canceling but i thought i just give you something to consider as you are now probably out the sales tax.
As far as proof just have them fax you a letter saying that its canceled and I am sure you will be ok. Then check with your lender to see if the principal was reduced.
Good luck

I'd cancel the maintenance. I think the maintenance is only worth it if you'd take it to the dealer anyway and do all the maintenance on time. And by "on time", I mean the schedule they probably used to compare to show that it's cheaper to prepay. Which was probably a 3 month/3k mile schedule rather than the 6 month/5k mile schedule. If you do that, then it should be cheaper to prepay (at regular dealer prices).
I had maintenance on my last car (GM). They'd often screw up and try to charge me. I think a regular dino oil change (4 quarts and filter) was about $55 after all the disposal fees. A tire rotation added another $25 or $30. They also "forgot" to rotate the tires a couple times they'd put it on the invoices. I only bought it because the dealer was less than a mile from my work so it was convenient. Good thing because it was in the shop for warranty repairs at least as often as normal maintenance.

hmm... almost fell for this warranty package too. tried to sell it to me by explaining that it raises re-sale value. not enough for me.
im curious though, are the complimentary 3 free oil changes for real? my dealer even said i can take it anywhere, and they can track how many i have or have left by looking up the VIN.

the "comp" oil changes are a good deal. I raised cain about the wrong floor mats.. and the dealer gave me another 3 free oil changes....6 total...... and then the wife raised hell about her floor mats... so she got the extra comp. for her toaster as well..

Yep cancelled it today with Toyota. First I called my dealer and they said it only cover's oil changes no tire rotations, and no 15k or 30k.
The dealer charges $28 per oil change. Since it was over 30 days I took a $65 cancellation hit but it was worth it to save a good chunk of change and not let the dealer have most of it.
I only took this package because my last car was a Chevy and it broke down quite a bit and since I drove alot I did not want to worry about service.
I gues I stick to the manual and do the 5k services and so one. Most likely at each service I'll try to use Synthetic oil.
Thanks
