Funny, my dealership said that only 15% of the Scion made
are Manual Trans, but 60% of the users here voted manual.

I wonder if it's more of a case of "Enthusiasts Choose Stick"

Could be.

Automatics are great for delivery trucks, buses and Buick highway cruisers, but you remove any pretense of sporty driving when you opt for the automatic...and you cant fix that by shifting your automatic like a ricer driving his mom's Civic.

Nope, just tired of hearing the same insecurities. A skilled driver can drive either, someday, maybe you'll learn that...

Anyone can drive an automatic, skilled drivers included, I agree.

It's just that serious drivers choose manual transmissions because they like the control. Most people are more casual and prefer the convenience of an automatic though, at least in this country.

When I can finally buy an xB, I'll be getting an automatic because driving a manual in Los Angeles, CA just plain SUCKS

It's stop and go traffic all day

Besides, I love to cruise

Hey,I love my auto. It's nice to have an auto after the last 6 vehicles owned had a manual. As far as sporty driving is concerened it depends on what type of sporty driving. In autocrossing the auto would have the edge because you could stick it in 1st and forget it whereas the manual you would be constantly hunting for the proper gear. It is a nice change not having to constantly row gears though.
I also love the fact that while cruising at higher speeds the engine is not turning such high RPMS

That doesn't sound right to me at all, but whatever works for you.

Manual. Just bought/ picked it up this week. It's growing on me.
When shopping for a new vehicle, and decided on the xB I 'swore' I had no interest in mods whatsoever, but within a day I was wondering how to shade the taillights and darken the window tints.

Automatic... Wanted manual but my girlfriend doesn't drive stick, and she'll probably be driving as much as I do.

I prefer an automatic b/c I'm usually multitasking...i.e. eating, dialing, channeling, and/or reaching around. I have an automatic.

I did drive both an automatic and a stick to see what I
thought, and honestly, I couldn't stand the auto. After driving
the stick that was it for me.

Besides I don't "hunt" for gears, I instinctively know where
to go most of the time.

This is the first car I learned to drive MT in. What a forgiving clutch! I tried to learn on a friend's Audi, man that sucked...

Now that I've tried both, MT for me all the way! It's just more fun to drive, but it's hard to put down a sourdough jack while driving around town.

Default Chose Automatic xB

I would have loved a MT, but I'm teaching my wife to drive on this thing and it HAD to be a AT.... I already tried teaching her on my Hyundai Accent MT and it was pretty scary! After all these years with the stick though, I'm actually starting to like the AT and the relaxation that comes with it.

Precisely. And every automatic I've driven has multiple personalities and isn't quite sure WTF to do, especially going up and down hills. The best I've ever experienced is the Honda automatic on the CR-V with grade logic. It knows to downshift on long downhills and not to go into overdrive on uphills, but it's still FAR from perfect and gives you zero control, just like the rest of them.
