I actually prefer the TRD exhaust they installed to replace my busted DC Sports one. It's much quieter and the muffler doesn't hang so low.

Very much AGREE! Guess some may take a TRD instead. At this point get what you can just to keep it quiet. No one should have to drive it around like a loud HOOPTIE!
My Strup got to loud so I put a silencer in it for long trips.

I want to sincerely thank all of you who have been posting on this site about the exhaust problems of the xb release series 2.0. My story is much the same as many of yours. I started my car several weeks ago and noticed that it sounded much louder. When I looked at the muffler, the tip was missing. I wasn't quite sure what happened to it.

I took it to the dealer and they wanted to replace the entire exhaust system and have me pay $400.00. They believed that it had been stolen because in their words, "welds just don't come apart like that."

I told the dealer that I needed to think about it for awhile. Then I remembered this scionlife site. I had heard about it when I first purchased my xb. After performing a search, I found all of your posts about this subject!! I printed them and brought them to the dealer. The service manager didn't even realize that these cars had special sport mufflers and said that he had never heard of a tip falling off of a muffler. I reminded him that there were only 2500 of these cars produced and chances were good that I may be the only person that comes in with this particular problem (I have only seen 2 other yellow boxes in my area to date). The dealer agreed to order the system and said it will be covered under the warranty.

I will wait to see what happens next. I am apprehensive after reading all of your experiences. It probably won't proceed as smoothly as I hope. But I know that I would not have gotten this far without your posts.

I will add my voice to the chorus by writing Scion as well.
Thanks again,
Karen

Karen:

If you do get the part, please tell me. My dealership is still telling me that the part is on "stop sale" from Toyota. On the other hand, when I call Scion, they just told me that the dealership called them and told them the part was on "backorder." So either there's an error in communication or someone isn't being entirely honest. (Possibly the former, to be sure.)

Still, it's been a week, and no one would get me a part even if I wanted to pay them several hundred dollars!

Karenz, that is what we are here for. We are a community and we need to watch out for each other. I love my RS2, but this is ridiculous. I wish that Scion would back their prduct the way they should.

I honestly believe that once someone is seriously injured or even killed by one of these, only then will scion and even toyota corp take any sort of action other than ignoring it. But if that happens, they will probably need to worry about the lawsuit that they will get hit with from the victim.

That is a good idea. I found the web site of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov/) by looking at the web site of the NTSB (National Transportation Safety Board, http://www.ntsb.gov/).

There is a place to file a complaint on the site.

Good job Karenz and thanks for remembering us! Hopefully it all works out but I too question if it will go smoothly if the part is hard for the dealer to obtain. Please keep us updated on the progress tho.

I went to do a search on the ntsb site and there was no listing of Scion as a make. I went to Toyota and under model there was Scion tC but no xB. I guess no one has complained there yet. I would submit a report, but my exhaust has not fallen off yet.........

Has anyone tried redoing or reinforcing the welds before the tip falls off?

I might be picking up a good RS2.0 exhaust and the only thing that scares me is that the tip might fall off later on. If I get it I'll probably run it over to the shop I had install my Magnaflow cat-back on my Camaro and see if they can reinforce the welds somehow. Just wondering how well that will work....

That might be a good idea to have the welds sonic checked for cracking. Not sure how well a new weld would do over an old one tho ???

This can't be good PR for DC. I can't believe Scion isn't just calling all the RS2s back in and inspecting the tips for crackage. Seems like it would be easier to have them re-welded than replacing with new exhaust.
Too bad there wasn't a way to get hard numbers on how many have fallen off yet. Also, how many of the DC exhausts that were sold to other xB owners are having this problem? It can't be only the ones put on the RS2s.

^^i have heard of people who have goten a DC for the xA/xB and their tips have fallen off. It seems to be only the scion versions, i have searched elsewhere and found nothing about other cars having their dc's fail.

I think what scion is doing is waiting. they know a good number of the RS2's are out of warranty or about to get out of warranty so they are just waiting. I am already out at 38k. They figure when most are out the problme will disappear. Which really fustrates me, because I was hoping to be a scion customer for life, but if this is how they act i am seriously rethinking that. I feel like they just dont care. but they know because they have canceled all the dc exhausts. because they are not available from toyota anymore. sketchy aint it

^^^I hope you are wrong about Scion but I think you are right. They know they should do the right thing but prolly won't which is sad. The worst part is that they could make DC pay all of Scions costs involved with recalling them. Seems so simple but confused by Scions stance on this issue.

^^i so hope I am wrong, but this is where they are headed. I hope they read this, because our emails did nothing to faze them. I hope they stumble across this and try to correct their wrong.

What are the doing for the people that are still under or on extended warranties? This problem could hang around for quite some time.

Add another one to the "tipless RS 2.0 exhaust" club as of last week. /sigh.

Story is the same as all the others except I have 45k on mine so probably not under any kind of warranty.

Ssoooo...what / where is the best avenue to file an official complaint / request for recall ? (I know, I know, won't happen but I can at least add to the numbers....can't hurt us RS 2.0 tipless exhaust owners)
