These exhaust should be grandfathered in because the tips started falling off way before the warranties started running out. IMHO

Ssoooo...what / where is the best avenue to file an official complaint / request for recall ? (I know, I know, won't happen but I can at least add to the numbers....can't hurt us RS 2.0 tipless exhaust owners)
Send a note on www.scion.com

See your dealer with this long post

Good luck........

well here's the deal thus far :

I wrote to scion.com and explained the problem etc. I get the normal response that they have filed it as a claim and given it a reference number and they would like me to call them and talk to them more about it. So I do that, I call Scion.

The girl I talked to was very nice and helpful and decided she could escalate my problem to a Scion specialist.

I get a call back from the Scion specialist the next day about trying to resolve the problem. He and I talk for probably 10 mins. and then he says he'll see what he can work out and he will call me back the next day.

2 days pass and I do not hear anything so I call them back to find out my specialist had to take emergency vacation. DOH!

Yesterday I get a call back from the specialist. he informs me that they would be willing to pay 50% of the total repair bill. (part + dealership labor costs etc.) I tell him that there's a good chance 50% of all of that will still be more then if I replace it myself with a strup etc. He asks me what dealership I would like to use for the repairs so he can get me a price quote so I can decide what I want to do. I choose Jay Wolfe Scion since they are the closest to where I live and I could drop it off on a Saturday.

He calls me back in about an hour an informs me that the dealership is a delight to work with and since I've been a regular customer with the dealership for service etc. that between the dealership and Scion they will cover 100% of the repairs !!! They even escalate it for "good will" financing so I do not have to pay for it up front and get reimbursed. No money out of pocket.

2-3 weeks for the dealership to get my new DC Sports exhaust and then I can schedule to have it replaced ! w00h00

Please note that my box has 47k mileage so it's no longer covered under factory warranty and they are still doing this for me. (just hope this time the exhaust lasts LOL)

Anyway, so far they've been incredibly nice and friendly and helpful. Both Scion and my local dealership. I'll post when it's all done but so far I'm very happy with the results.

Default A good ending to this looooooong story

Maybe things are shifting at Scion? It's taken them a month to get the part, but my dealership called me last week and said that the repairs would be handled under warranty at no cost to me.

It's a smart move on Scion's part. My fiancee may be in the market for a car next month, as she may take a job that needs a commute and can't drive my R 2.0. The new xD might be just her kind of car--smaller, relatively fuel efficient, but comfortable--but I wouldn't have recommended it if the service wasn't as good as what she got from Honda when she bought her last hybrid.

For those of you in the Club, take heart. I hope you get the same treatment.

It's great to see Scion doing the right thing. They prolly won't use non standard exhausts anymore tho.

Add another tipless in NC to the list. 28689 miles and it just disappeared this morning. The last oil change I had I asked them to check the exhaust for cracks, they reported that everything was fine no cracks. I will see them tomorrow ans see what they will do. Wish me luck.

In case they aren't aware of this problem, I'd take a copy of this topic to prove it's a widespread problem.
Good luck and keep us posted on how it goes.

Well it has been 2 days and no call yet from the DEALER, they have kicked it up to the Toyota regional parts person. Same old stuff this the part is no longer availiable, and they do not know what to do. They will replace it but with what.

They have hinted at Borla or the TRD Does anyone have any suggests to guide me .

I am afraid that even if they put the DC axle on that it might have the same problem.

Help.

If you have a choice jump on a TRD. They sound and look great.
I'd def be worried about the problem repeating sometime in the future.

If you can, get the TRD, it is actually a much nicer exhaust IMO.

I will post this again as I'm on my third DC exhaust.

You must tell them to use your vin number to order the part or else it will come up
as not available. Only an RS 2.0 can order this part. The TRD exhaust is crap and is
not a replacement for a custom RS 2.0 exhaust. That DC exhaust is part of the RS
package and is non-negotiable. Your not driving and RS 2.0 without it. They put a TRD
on my car while we waited for the DC to come in and I hated it.

^^^^Exactly! You paid for the RS2.0 package and the exhaust was part of the package and i'm sure a majority of the $$$ went for that particular part...Get the RS2.0 exhaust again, and again, and again, and again...Unless you go custom like I did and sell the DC...LOL

DC Sports is dead to me. Why would you want the same exhaust with the same problem? Isn't it dangerous knowing that eventually the tip will fall off and may cause an accident? I was mad that they replaced mine with the TRD, but over time I've grown to like it better than the DC Sports model.

A buddy of mine wrecked his RS 2.0 and he pulled the exhaust before the wrecker towed
it away. Now I have a spare in my garage waiting for next time.
