u.k spec headlights
I've just bought an 05 black sand pearl xb which will be shipped to the u.k in approximately 5 weeks. The problem I have is that we drive on the left over here and i need to deflect the headlight beems for the vehicle to pass inspection for u.k use. does any one know how I can change the beems to shine to the left, I cant use lens converter stickers as these wont pass the test. the only option I have at the moment is to buy toyota bb headlights from japan which will run me around £500 (approx $1000), any ideas would be appreciated.
jdm style lights sold in America still shine to right as far as I know??????

yep... there is an aiming screw on the backside of the headlight housing... i'm sure you could adjust it to UK specs...
congrats on your new xB... curious, will that be the first xB/bB in the UK?...

I think the adjustment is for up and down, not left to right. There might be a left/right adjustment too, but I'm not sure. The flare of the headlights which sends more light to the right side of the road is built into the reflector optics. Some people have posted pics of the beam pattern of aftermarket projectors which appear to have a left (UK/Japanese) flare. They might work.
OK, this is a long shot and may not pass inspection, but i'll toss it out anyhow...
When I added these little Glow in the Dark boots to my headlight bulbs, the extra material in there, although thin, causes one of the headlamps to shine higher than the other. Nothing to do with the aiming of the housings, just having the bulb in a different place causes the reflection to change and shoot higher. I'm thinking maybe you could make some small filler shims and add them to one side of the headlampmounting hole that would cause the beam to point towards the correct side. Kinda like a camber plate for the bulb... It would take some trial and error, and like i said, may not be good enough for inspection, but at least it may plant a seed that will help... Good Luck...

Cheers guys, i'll have a look into this aiming screw first when the xB arrives.
I believe it will be the only u.k registered xB, two U.S Navy officers in London have already beat me to the first in the u.k but I think they are still u.s registered.
there is no left to right aiming screw on the xb headlights.. even if there was.. that wouldnt change the flare.. all it would do is move the actual beam left or right
and even the up / down screw wont work
the reason why you will fail is because of the RIGHT HAND FLARE ... which is what US spec and any other car that people drive on the right side of the road have.
jdm spec headlights have a LEFT hand flare .. as they drive on the left side of the road .. and that flare is used to light up signs . HOTBOX nailed it right on the head
if i remember from pics .. your best bet is to get a set of the FIRST GEN projector headlights.. the one with the LED eyebrow up top ... (the old school ones) .. those had a JDM flare and were selling for around 350 .. much cheaper then getting a set of bB headlights
and even the up / down screw wont work

I can get both HID and regular JDM headlights, they will not run you $1000 (the HID will) but for regular one they are way cheaper than than, PM me for more info take care Sean
and by the way, the HID ones have a selfadjusting motor and you can adjust the light to any postion and angle you want if you disconect the motor !!

Who did you go through, and how much did it cost you to get the xB shipped to England?
I'm moving to London in a couple of months, and I'll be bringing my xB with me, so I'd really appreciate it if you could give me all the info!!!
Thanks
I'm having delays in the shipping, it will be going on the container this week or next.the headlights have been ordered from japan via JAPARTS (japarts.com) a set is costing me just over £300gbp. I'll let you know the full shipping costs when i get the invoice, although my costs will include UK VAT and sales taxes from Cali which i dont beleive you will have to pay as it would possibly be classed as apersonal import depending on how long you have owned the car and how long youve lived in U.S.A
