Viper alarm (strange button)
Hi guys, I bought my xb1 almost a year ago, it came with a Viper Alarm system already installed, and I just discovered that right next to my on/off switches, there is a strange button that was hidden underneath them. It is a little, black button.. any ideas as to what it is?

Here's the owners guide to my Viper model #5900, note it does not mention anything about the black button so it's probably for the professional installer to mess with.

It's not on the remote, it's by my hood latch release lever. I have an orange switch to turn on/off the alarm, and a silver switch to turn on/off the remote start, then there's a black one. I will post a picture when I get home

Here's how the valet button works for my Viper model: "You can prevent your security system from automatically arming
and triggering by using Valet® Mode. This is very useful when washing the vehicle or having it serviced. In Valet® Mode, the security system will not arm, even with the remote transmitter, but all convenience functions (door locks, trunk release, etc.) will continue to work normally."

Thats the "valet" button. You can use it to put the alarm in "valet" mode, as previously noted. Basically it turns the alarm system into a keyless lock/unlock. I'm not sure when that would actually be useful, but hey, there it is. It can also be used to disarm the alarm if you lose/break the remote. What you do is, unlock the car with your key, open the door quickly, put the key in the ignition and turn it to on (not start) and push the valet button a preset number of times. The installer could program it to be 1-5 pushes of the button. This will disarm the alarm. If you push it an incorrect number of times, turn it to off, back to on, and try again. Note that unless you can open the door and execute the sequence within ~5 seconds, the alarm will start going off until you enter the correct sequence.
