Default VSC / Trac / Engine Lights

I have completed multiple searches on the Xb forums and cannot find the answers I was looking for so I'm gonna throw up another topic and see if you guys can help me out. I have experienced the same old problem alot of you have had with these dash lights coming on, this past weekend I hooked it up to a computer at my brother in laws shop and it comes in with the P0012 code, the timing is retarded. I'm currently sitting at 39,550 miles and I'm kinda ticked off that this has occured, the reason I bought a Toyota/Scion was to have a vehicle I didn't have to worry about . My question for everyone that I haven't been able to find the answer to is I realize my original 36,000 mile warranty is out, but shouldn't this be covered in the powertrain portion that extends out longer due to it being an internal engine problem ? What do you guys think ? My dealer didn't offer me a extension on the warranty at time of purchase.

Hay man that problem you have there is warranty issue... You need to take it to the dealer and have them check it out.
I'm a technician at a toyota dealer ship here in arizona and have seen this problem before. If the light is off sometimes and comes on at others there is probably a problem with the VVTI acctuater and it will more then likely need to be replasced.
Again i've seen this simily problem before and this the repair I had to perform to repair it... Take it to tha DEALER...
