Default VSC, TRAC OFF and CHK ENG light update

I brought the car to the dealer and the service advisor that was helping me was trying to tell me that whenever the CHKENG light comes on it automatically makes the VSC and TRACOFF light come on too. So in other words she was trying to tell me if the CHKENG light came on because of a loose gas cap that it would turn the VSC and TRACOFF lights on too. That makes no sense. Then she was trying to tell me that if the light was on because of a gas cap loose issue that they will charge me a $84 diagnostic fee. I told the car is 2 weeks old just fix it!

Thanks,

John

I'll keep you folks updated as the day goes on.

What they are saying about the lights is true. With the way the wiring is all three go off. There have been other posts about all three going off at once.

Ok folks here is where it stands. When I went to pickup the car this afternoon they said the mechanic that worked on the car wanted to speak to me. His name was Mike and was a really nice guy. He explained to me that it seemed the computer had registered a O2 sensor code and that is what set off the lights. He said he wasn't sure why as after he cleared the codes he could not get it to happen again. He said to just drive it and if it happened again to bring it back and they would pursue it further at that point. I felt much better after speaking with him as he also explained that the 3 lights go off together because the main computer registered the CHKENG light error and until that clears the computer assumes there is a malfunction or something is faulty. Since the VSC computer, which he said is a separate unit, is dependent on a properly functioning main computer the VSC shuts down since it can't trust the info it is receiving from the main computer. After hearing it explained in that fashion now it kind of makes sense. Anyway as I was driving it home not even about 3 miles from the delership the lights all came on again. I called them and told them and they said to bring it in Monday and they would take care of it then. He also assured me it was ok to drive the car with the Oxygen sensor error code as it is nothing major.

Thanks I'll keep you guys posted,

John
