You can go to any DMV location - I believe in each and every state and get a full copy of the state's Vehicle Codes for a whopping $3.. Each year they stock new ones with current updates. I have been keeping one in the glove box since i started driving. You would be surprised how many times local pd and highway patrol officers write tickets incorrectly, and or are wrong about the exact letter of the law..
Having a copy of the current codes handy can not only get you out of a ticket, but better still can be a great back up in court should you decide to fight a ticket (provided you are correct and the officer was not). I think we all as americans and more so as modified import drivers need to know and understand the laws and use them to our advantage, rather then letting "The Man" get one over on us..
In ca for instance, the letter of the law on tinted tails says that your tails need to reflect red from a specified amount of feet away, it does not say that tinted tails are illegal... I encourage anyone with tinted tails or smoked etc.. to read up on your local codes reguarding this and see what you can do to be street legal, but still get that modified look we want. In some cases that means going light smoke rather then full black..
So it pays to be in "the know" before hand rather then slamming the cops for doing their jobs (they still suck *****... (both my sisters are sherrif's). It's totally ok to slam them when they are incorrect of course!
Also, in CA though the officers do have quotas, the quotas are so low that any officer can make his monthly quote in a few hours one day - at least in LA County they can.. The rules on officer quotas were changed here years back because rookie officers were writing everything and anything at the end of the month for fear of losing their jobs..
I know it sucks to be singled out and feel like you are getting a lame ticket over something stupid, i have had my share of tint tickets, etc.. hence now as much as i hate it i dont rock the tint up front..
I encourage everyone to spend the $3 and get a copy of your current vehicle codes at the dmv and know your laws and rights ahead of time, dont take a friends word or the word of a trusted source on-line (not that on line sources cant be correct, but we can all agree there is lots of min-information out there), or a family friend, go to the source! Trust me, you feel really good standing up in court, telling the judge why they have to throw out your case when you have factual info and proof to back you up, rather then your word against some cop's.

 

(I also carry the concealed carry laws for three states in the box "just in case," because, as I said to one cop "Yeah, I'm carrying, *looking at his* and mine is bigger than yours...")

ALWAYS have the proof you are right handy, just in case you run into someone who thinks he knows but doesn't.

Works for me.

 

I will be doing this from now on. I really appreciate the help that you guys have given. I attached my plate this morning to the honey comb type grill so i did not have to drill into the bumper.

Everything got signed off at the local PD and the CHP there even said he was impressed with how I attached the plate with out having to drill.

Everyone needs to try to lay off of cops! I'm the 1st SOB out there that will say something as soon as they leave my car for some stupid bull____. But...
The sec that we need them they are the _______s that are putting there lives on the line to try to help my fat ___.
When people cry that they were busted at a street race or in the wrong part of it knowing that this ____ is going on and you still do it then you know what... SUCKS TO BE YOU!

I know everyday when I drive that all I need to to get stoped for something on my car. but if is going to save a life then you should know better as the driver of the car.
I don't think you can say the devil made me do it. Not even El Chapulin Colorado will help you there.

 

sorry about that guys, its raining here but as soon as i can i will get pics up. mind you the front tag is in horrible condition from an accident about two years ago, but the install is nice and clean.

 

Here are a couple of pics of the front plate. I kwik welded the top square part back on so it can be clearly identified as a California plate (just in case).




So I bolted to the honey comb grill like those of you suggested. I used two standard bolts, three washers, and some left over stock tubing for a spacer. I am pretty impressed with the results for such an improvised, quick fix.

(Make sure you have a little padding - or even a couple little patches of 3M doublestick behind the plate to keep it from scuffing the bumper from vibration...)

Quota's are not only illegal, but a common misconception and an urban legend. The idea that each Police Officer is required to find a preset number of violations by a predetermined date is rediculous.

And what evidence do you have to support that Cops write more tickets at the end of the month versus the begining or middle of the month?

My guess is none.

 

Hollywood, it may be unlawful to have "quotas" in Cali, but not everywhere.

as far as quotas are concerned:

although it may be illegal to have them, it does not mean they do not exist in the shadows. i have friends who work for the PD that have claimed police officers are "encouraged" to have a set number of stops. You have to remember, even though they work for the government, taxes cannot play for everything. It is a business and for any business to survive it must make a profit. Simple as that.

So whether or not quotas are openly discussed or encouraged, i do not know, but for any PD to be able to pay for its employees and their benefits profits must be made somewhere.

nope, i have no idea where the money goes. all i know is from those i know who work at the PD and any government department for that matter, run it like a business. They have revenues just like any other business out there. and when profits drop below costs, they make adjustments to correct this, as best they can.

I do not know enough about any of it to make any certain statements. clearly all my information is hear say, but not just from your average Joe on the street but rather from those who work on the inside. I feel more comfortable believing someone who works in the business, than someone who stands outside trying to look in the window.

 

Well this is coming from a future Police Officer.

With that said, I also come from a family of law enforcement. With over a century of cumulative public service derived from various family members.

 

...and I haven't had a ticket since I got one in 1978 for five over on I-5...

I respect police officers, but ultimately they can and will be used as tools of the government. This government will fleece people with any means necessary to keep the money flowing in. Thinking otherwise is simply naive.
