HMMM--can only vote for either octane or station--not both. Do a search and you will see threads about top tier gasoline--which is recommended by Toyota. That is why I buy at Shell.
Here is a site that explains top tier gas--more important than octane in our beasts:

I use the cheapest station I can find in the area. 87 Octane. There is no need or advantage to use any higher octane fuel in stock xB. I rather spend that extra money on mods.
Also, IMO, it is a myth that brand name gas is better than no-name. If you ever follow the delivery trucks you would find that eventually all the gas comes from some big distributor serving all sorts of gas stations.
Maybe some brand names have few more unneeded additives in them. Big deal...
Top-Tier, Amsoil, STP - they ara all shady deals. Nobody is in the petroleum business to be nice to you - they're all in it to make *LOTS* of money.

Although it is minute, I noticed when I put crap gas (AKA AM/PM) my car vibrates more and for some odd reason my gas mileage went down 2-4 MPG. When I started to put Chevron and chevron is top teir, there was less vibration and I got better MPG out of it.
91 octane, Chevron.
In fact, it ____ed me off that the dealer filled the tank before I bought it with 87.
As far as there being no difference in gasoline brand:
My brother was a tractor-trailer truck driver/mechanic for years. At the time, most of the gasolines were the same - the truck would leave am/pm and head to amco. what was even worse, however, was that when it went back for a refill, they paid no attention to what was in the truck previously. So it could carry diesel one trip, and 91 octane the next, which leads to serious problems.
The one exception to this was Chevron, who never mixed diesel and unleaded (even after the tanker is empty, there is still some left in it).
Things are better these days, but...
As far as additives, the top car manufacturers believe that most gasolines do not have sufficient additives to keep the injectors, etc clean. You can use such gasolines, but open yourself up to problems later on. I see no reason to dispute the manufacturers claims.
Chevron was (granted, according to their own advertising) the only brand that did not have to change their formula to be toptier certified.
As for the octane issue:
There are several threads on this. 2004-2005 xBs had the HP certified using 91 octane fuel, and tested at 108 hp. Due to new regulations, the 2006 (identical engine) had the HP certified using 87 octane fuel, and tested at 103 hp. Moreover, there are performance increases during acceleration, with heavy loads, or while going uphill. Read the threads for an explanation of why.
So while some may say that they would rather save the money for mods, why not pamper the car and gain an extra 5 hp while you're at it?
Or not. It's up to you.

ive had the same issue as dotslpit seems really shakey and like it wants to stall out ...at stop lights its a rough idle ..when i use something good (higher octane) it feels good cant even tell the car is on...since i didnt spend much on the car might as well pamper it with good gas and tell everyone how much i hate getting 30+ a gallon
25 bucks fills it up with 92...
cheapest name brand i can find usually shell or bp sometimes chevron. in all cases 87 octane. however i just looked and saw the compression ratio is 10.5 to 1 according to wiki hmmmmmmmm perhaps some premium is in order after all
