^^ 87 octane. Is that definitive enough for you?

89 Octane. I know the car will run on 87, but I found it to be a bit smoother with 89, and I don't mind paying an extra 3% for that.

I use Sunoco because it's nearby and a decent price, and ours is part of a Dunkin' Donuts store. I don't switch brands unless desperate.

Well I just put in 89 octane and will try to pay better attention at how my car runs. I ususally put 87 and have noticed my car runs not so nice at an idle. I just figured it was something to do with my (TCM) xB as compared to my husband's (BSP) which seems to idle fine. Seems as though the two cars have different temperments, maybe. Guess I'll find out.

I follow the Toyota's reccommendation and use 87 or higher octane fuel with no more than 10% ethanol from one of the Top Tier suppliers.

(Beyond that, everyone has their own opinion, and doesn't care to listen to anyone else's, anyway.)

Toyota recomends 87 or higher, so I just go with the cheapest gas. I normally use Chevron/Texaco (I have a charge with them).

When I used to work on cars and bought/drove VERY used and classic cars I was an octane snob. It made a difference in those cars, but not in my Scion.... so I am for cheap gas these days.

So, you pull up to the pump and select premium. The previous person that had just fueled up had selected regular. Does any body know how much regular grade gas is still in the pump system, between the actual pump and the nozzle? Could it be that the first gallon+ of mid or premium gas is just regular grade that is in the “system”? Just thinking with my fingers on the keyboard.

LMAO

I have used 89 for the last 2000 miles. Runs smoother, not much noticeable mileage improvement.

I ALWAYS run Shell.

Boxerinabox, at the stations I use there is a separate electrical pump, and separate hose, for each grade of fuel in each 'kiosk.' There is no mixing.

There is a common hose at yours for the diffeent grades?

Unfortunately, that is the norm here. You hit a button to select the grade.

Exactimundo. Most stations where I’m at have the single hose pump. It really sucks for those on bikes paying for premium up and getting half or two thirds of a tank of regular grade.

You have to figure someone's tried getting some satisfaction on that issue via their local/state government, or some consumer-protection group. I wonder what happened?
