What's the 06 R3.0 worth?
So I'm in the process of potentially trading the xB for something new (need more power for long highway trips) and I'm debating what to do with the xB.
The dealer only wants to give $10,800 for trade, which I think is BS. It's an 06 R3.0 with 35K miles.
According to KBB, the Trade-In value of the car is worth:
Excellent: $12,425
Good: $11,590
I would say the car is in excellent condition since I've always taken great car in it. Even for "Good" condition, their trade offer is crap.
The Private-Party value on KBB shows:
Excellent: $14,560
Good: $13,620
Now it's also important to mention that the xB has aftermarket wheels, Tanabe springs and a good deal of eDead inside it. I'm going to take out the aftermarket speakers and put the factory speakers back in. Also taking out the sub, amps and CleanSweep.
So my question is, what should I reasonably try to get the dealers to give me on trade, and if I decide to sell it privately, what would be a reasonable price to ask for?
I'm thinking of trying to get the dealer up to $12,000, or seeing if I can list it on eBay for around $13,000.
Thoughts?

I would say that $10,800 is about right cause my dealer would give me about $8,500 for my plain xB with only 30K miles on it. The book value is what it's worth, not what someone is gonna pay for it...

I guess I'll have to see what I can get from Carmax for it...they tend to offer more than most dealers do for a trade.
thanks.
yea. but looking at what a dealer is selling a car for is not a good way to think what your price should be, I agree with what metro said. i bought my 06 with 6,600 miles for 11,000 so your price is a good one. Good Luck with the trade and buy of your new car
im with everyone elts.
something could be worth a ton of $, the trick is finding someone to pay that much for it.
the dealer is interested in making money, if they can sell it for 14k they will not give you 13k, they wouldn't make any money.
you best bet is to always sell it private. the only reason i would tread to the dealer was if i was pressed for time and i didn't feal like tring to sell it private.

i had a 98 new beetle before my xb, i had very little time such as less than a week and a half. i only got 2800 for it the car was solid only thing it needed was a paint job, it was keyed when i was in school and the clear was getting really thin and paint came through in a few spots but other than that it only had 130,000 on it and a brand new clutch and front wheel bearings and brand new winter tires. but i needed the xb to go on the road with, with my new job.
Ok, so I went back to the dealer, telling them I was sold on the price of the new car but just needed to get square on the trade.
Told them I'd either take $11.5 toward the price of the new car, or $11 with some accessories thrown in.
They came back at $11.2 trade toward the new car. So that left me with a $500 difference between my payoff, which isn't bad so I took it.
Thanks again for the tips...sorry to be leaving the xB world, but it's been fun!

A lot of people say kbb.com 'good' condition minus $1000 is what dealers usually go off of. So at 10,850, you're looking pretty solid. You could get more private party though. Also, if you've still got the stock wheels, swap em and sell your aftermarket. Most of the times they will deduct money for aftermarket equipment.

Don't give it away to the dealer. Sell it on Auto trader for what it's really worth. If I was looking for a clean RS3 I'd gladly pay 13-14K for the right one. Dang I wish I could get another one.
