What was your actual driving speed? Three years ago I held the speed at 55 mph with a few forays up to 60 mph, without stopping for 250 miles, and got 43 mpg. Had I done that all day with stops for gas and food, my average speed would have dropped below 50 mph.

My driving speeds varied from 70 mph to 46 mph avg. I had to meet some friends outside of Austin TX one morning and was running late, so I went 70 mph for 70 miles. Driving the length of Florida down and back with my wife and two 11 year old girls, I set the cruise control at 55 mph. On Interstate highways, I averaged about 55 mph. On country highways, I averaged about 46 mph.
At 70 mph with cruise control, my mileage dropped to 32 mpg. At 55 mph, it's about 40 mpg. ATs with their higher final gearing do better than my MT on highway cruises. P&G raises my mpg over cruise control about 5 mpg at the same average speeds.
