Default Why is it so hard to buy a scion ?????

You wont believe what I had to go through to get my rs 2.0. I when't to look and test drive and ended up filling out the paper work just to see if I could buy . Well I could so I called the next day and told him to find me an rs 2.0. He called me and said he found one and it was mine come done after work the next day and my car would be there. The next day he calls and says that the 2.0 was sold from under us and he couldnt get it . So I gave up on the 2.0 and was going to get a black cherry but he couldnt get any thing but white in a stick so I gave up and was going to take the white one and pick it up the next day. The next day I couldnt stop thinking that I didnt want white so I called the same dealers north store just to see if I was getting a load of B.S. . The guy at the north store said yep I got a silver one with a stick I said great I will stop by and take a look. Next I called my sales person and told him I wanted the silver one at the other store he said ok and he will get it for me and call me later. Well later that day I took lunch and whent to see the car, sure enough it was there, on the show room floor . So I just ask a sales person if it was for sale he looked and said yes so I said I want it and that I had all my paper work done at the south store and I wanted to buy it from the guy at the south store mind you they are owned by the same person and share the same name. Well this is where it all whent wrong. They got all ____y because they wanted the sale not there sister store well I went off because all they had to do was send the car to the other store and life would be good. But no, so we started yelling at each other and I was asked to step in the "glass room" and speak to the manager he would not agree to what I wanted he had to have the sale so I said fine if he wouldnt send it to the other store I said I will drive to denver and buy from some other dealer and then I left never to go back there ever .I called my sales guy at the south store and said look, I like you but I dont want white and if the other store would not give him the car to sell that I was going to denver. He said let me see what i can do he called me later and said he found a RS 2.0 with a stick and he would have if for me later that night . The next day I had my RS 2.0 why is it so hard to buy a scion???????

Did any thing like this happen to you guys?????????????????

I had a really easy experience. Went to the dealer, took a test drive, bought the car, signed the check for the car in full, drove it home, all in about 3 hours.

It's not hard to buy a scion. It was hard for you but that doesn't mean it's like that for everyone. You can't settle for anything less than what you want. Next time you go to buy a new car, make sure you know what you want and stick to it. If they can't get it for you, go somewhere else. Never settle. I ordered my xB straight from Japan so I waited about a month and I got what I wanted. I did all the paperwork in about a half hour. Glad to see you got what you wanted in the end, now you can have fun with your new car and forget about the BS that went on earlier.

I have to agree with the above. Just told the salesman I wanted a Camo manual and handed him the printout of the options I wanted. He entered them in, looked at his list and found on at the Houston port. Had the car within the week.
Now if you try to play one dealship against the other, I would not expect them to be real happy. Just buy it from whoever can get you the car you want.

The only reason its hard because it isnt you, its Toyota Personel not taloing and communicating with opher dealers. and also remember you were trying to purchase a limited edition vehicle with probably a pre set production number of automatics and manuals. it sounded like a miscommunication in the start of your post.

Glad you got it. Post pics with it!

my kid brother sold cars for a while...but he was fired b/c he's not sKandalous enough for the business...dont call and ask if they have a car in stock cause they'll gladly lie to you that its there (esp if they have to meet their quotas and its the end of the month). once you get there they say OOPS its just been bought...but i can show you this OTHER car.

at one point i really wanted the Camo xB and i asked the product specialist over the phone if it was still there---he told me YES YES ITS STILL HERE!! COME ON DOWN. --and as soon as he said YES I told him he better not be lying or i'd be ____ED if i went there and it wasnt there--so how about the guy puts me on hold and says he'll check "just in case" (probably put me on hold; sat down with a cup of coffee and whistled for like 5 minutes) then came back on the phone and told me it wasnt there. its a tactic. simple as that.

Is there a running tally available to the public to tell day to day just which stock of Scions is in what dealer's inventory?

For instance, as the RS2 supply runs out in few weeks or whenever, can a shopper learn where are the remainders?

Exactly... what I'd like to see.

Is it any wonder why Flee markets are often found on old carlots?(ret. question)

Hustle and haggle... same ol same ol.

Glad you got the car you wanted.

Default who's on first?

Interesting topic, as I had a tough time of it also:

1. I ordered a Camoflauge Manual on a Tuesday in Pittsburgh, and got a trade-in price in writing from my dealer here in Pittsburgh. Delivery was to be "4-6 weeks".

2. I called Thursday to see how the order was coming along, but had to leave a message.

3. I called Friday and was told "there is no camo manual available in the United States", but I could have any other color I wanted.

4. I searched the web for an hour or two on Friday and found one in inventory in Cleveland.

5. I presented the info to the Pgh dealer on Saturday, who told me that "with only 7 camo manual cars in the Eastern US, they are very hard to get", and "we'd be happy to look into the car you found on Monday".

6. I offered to let them bring the Cleveland car to Pgh, so we could finish the deal we started. They weren't interested.

7. So I got my downpayment refunded, and drove 2 hrs to Cleveland and bought a car on that same Saturday. By the way, the Cleveland dealer didn't have only 1 camo manual in stock, he had 3, and I got no double-talk there. They even configured the car to my specs (with a few exceptions due to lack of parts) within those 2 hours.

8. My suspicions?: I think the Pgh dealer had second thoughts about the trade-in value he had given me. It was substantially higher than what I got in Cleveland, but Cleveland still gave me a fair deal. I also think dealers only want to sell what is on their lot. The trouble with this is that the Pgh dealer only had 2 xBs left on his lot, and in the 3 weeks since I got the car this situation hasn't changed. I wouldn't be surprised if this dealer is no longer selling Scions in a short while.

Your problems are with the dealership , and not Scion!

Way to Stick it out for the Camo Manual (get it, Stick ), arent to many of us out there. Instead of calling the dealers, check their stock on their website. If it is a reputable dealer the list will be updated as cars are sold. Also Check out the dealership reveiws on this site, tehy may be helpful as you look to buy.
