That being said, the light transmission is exactly te same thru the ones that are tinted, and the ones that I don't know for sure. I have a friend who's a cop, and we used his tint tester gun. Considering this, I am led to believe that they are all using the same tint film, as it would be very difficult imo to exactly match a tint film to smoked glass.

You are wrong in this case.

It's smoked glass, not tint. My rear window was broken once. It's smoked glass.

I think he meant that he added film on the hatch window, not the rear sides.

well, I stand corrected. I do wonder if there is a difference between model years, becasue a guy in my club, chipperxb, had somehow scratched the rear hatch glass in his 2004 BOP (rip), and it left a gouge in what was clearly window tint film. A triangle was torn, and hanging off, and I was really surprised, thinking at that time that the glass was smoked.

Max, are all seven pieces of rear glass smoked, as far as you know?

This is actually encouraging, because the only thing stopping me from going limo was the cost of removing the film that *i thought* was there...

PS: I realize this was a bit of a threadjack, and I am sorry.

That sounds reasonable for all the windows except the windshield. Make sure there is a good warranty with it.

Oh, and no one has mentioned it so I guess I should. DO NOT USE WINDOW CLEANER WITH AMONIA IN IT (Windex) ON TINT FILM. This is what causes all that funky light purple looking tint out there.

I thought purple film was becuase the shop used the cheaper inked colored film and not the higher priced metal films. Always made sense to me, inks fade in the sun, metals don't. Now I do know that you're not supposed to use anything with ammonia on the car AT ALL. The ammonia attacks the surface of the plastic, which is everything in a car, not just tints.
