windsheild troubles.........................how common?
I've seen/read some of the threads on here. The "vertical" style of the windsheild doesn't jive with me. I have a Volvo wagon (240 DL) and those are damn near straight up & down also. It's got 200,000 and still has the original windsheild in it.
Is there just too much body flex with the Xb or is the front glass just a POS?

I don't think it's just body flex since mine hasn't had any problems. I hit good size bumps every day. It's not even 2 years old, but it's taken a few hard hits- enough to have caused small chips/pits. No cracks yet though. It might be aftermarket glass not being as good quality or bad install.
windsheilds are not warranteed
it is common
part of it is soft glass , part is the angle , and the height off of the ground
my safelite installed ppg was MUCH better

I had my windshield covered under warranty. They considered the crack to be a stress crack. New windshield for free.
The aftermarket windshield is holding up way better then the stock one. The stock windshield was pitted very bad and chipped at 20,xxx. Got the new windshield around then. Almost to 40,000 now and new windshield is still clear and chip free.

Flexing has nothing to do with it. And the windshield won't be replaced under warranty because of a chip. The stock windshield is just... not that great. I have to get mine replaced too. So, PPG FTW guys?

The xB is a very stiff body structure due to it's square shape. This shape also adds up to a very good handling vehicle even before any suspension upgrades are added.
1st gen. xB FTW!
Couple things to consider here fellas.
1. Under most conditions the windshield isnot covered under warrenty. Although i have seen 2 acceptions to this rule. The windshields were replaced by the dealer because the windshields themselves were defective and cracked from pressure. This kind of crack usually comes from one of the 4 outter edges and forces the crack to follow the side it starts on, staying only about 2 or 3 inches from the outter edge.
I had my OEM windshield replaced by my insurance a couple years ago. They first installed their brand of glass, and it cracked because of the curiture on the drivers side. I then had it replaced with a PPG and it has held up until now. This spring i will be having the windshield replaced again, as the small chips make the glass look cloudy.
This brings me to my next point. It depends on where your at in this US of A. If you in an area where there isnt a lot of sand or rocks on the highways then your windshield is going to hold up longer then those of us who live near cities.
In any case, to replace the windshield expect the glass, seal and labor to run you about $300. Through insurance i pay $100.
