Hey. With the large vertical flat nature of our xB windshields, I would be interested in buying a film type thingamabobber that might save the life of my windshield. I've had my xB for about 7 months and have two large chips and a 12" crack already. Now I'm on my second windshield.

Yeah, I here ya. Would be a pain though when you have to use the wiper. Unless there's a wiper that can easily glide on the film like glass. Then the worries of frost getting inside the film. Possible bubbling issues.
3M makes a plastic film to protect the front of cars and the headlights but it is not approved for windshield use. http://cms.3m.com/cms/US/en/2-168/clelFFC/view.jhtml It would have to be able to hold up to ice scrapers and windshield wipers as well as pass regulatory muster ("...it does not meet the Department of Transportation's standards for optical clarity").
P.S. The Honda Element is also notorious for cracked windshields, a quick search of Element owner forums will find owners who have replaced 4 or 5 windshields in a short time. Honda has also issued a Technical Service Bulletin for a defect in the windshield frame of some Elements which was making the problem much worse.
The upright design and large glass area of both vehicles provides great visability but also is a large target for stones and other road debris.

This is probably more likely to be an aftermarket thing... and you CAN get it. The problem is that the film is applied to the INSIDE of the glass to make the car more theft-resistant. Probably not going to help much.
