Winter time car wash: hand wash or touch less
who likes to hand wash their car in the winter or do you prefer touch less wash in winter? and if you do what place do you go to get your touch less wash done?
touch less is really touch less........ it doesnt even hit most of the dirt off... all u get is wherever the jet of water hits, u get that exact line cleaned, other than that, its not worth going through those car washing and paying. just wait for a sunny day or when its not as cold wash it urself, you can clean anywhere and everywhere
Touchless can be very place-dependent. I used to ignore touchless because the one near where I used to live was useless and just gave me a car with clean & dirty stripes.
However a few months ago I wanted to just get the worst of the grime off my Box in the one above freezing day, so I hit the touchless place near where I now live. It is freaking amazing, got every speck of dirt off the car and made it shine. I'd say it is about 90% as good as me in the driveway with a sponge & bucket.
That being said, I'd *prefer* to hand wash the car, but the outside hose is shut off for the winter, and the driveway drains weird so I'd likely end up with an ice skating rink. So I am using the touchless wash until the temps get consistently a bit warmer then the Box is getting one insane wash/degrease/clay bar/wax to make up for it.

Your car should only be washed by hand. It would actually be better for your paint to go an entire winter without washing than to go through an automated car wash. You should be washing your car every week, by hand of course. If it is cold where you live during the winter, you can wash your car with inside a garage or covering using rinse less car washes like Quick and Easy Wash (QEW) or Optimum No Rinse (ONR). If you aren't familiar with these products, check out autopia.org and search on them. Learn how to use the products and washing your car in the winter won't seem so bad. They are also perfect for people who live in apartments.
from December to March I hit a regular car wash, only $5 for a basic wash with underbody flush.
The rest of the year I hand wash. I apply wax in spring and fall. It wears off fast though because I park it out side in the summer. The garage is reserved for the other 2 cars from April to November. The box gets the garage in winter.
Car wash might not be great for the paint, but underbody flush helps to get that salt out.
Besides, even with the car wash my paint still looks new after 3.5 years. Just make sure you wax a couple times a year.
