Hi. I'm new here. I'm in Vancouver, BC, so I haven't seen too many Scions, but a friend visiting from Washington suggested I should look into them. At the moment I just have a few questions.

Does anyone know how the interior holds up to the nails of a dog (he's about 40-50 pounds)? I'm particularly concerned about the frantic exit from the vehicle, when paws and claws are flying around, just looking for sufaces to dig into.

And then, completely unrelated, what's the general feel of the driving position? I'm on the tall side (6'1" to 6'2"), but I have long legs. This has often been a problem in other cars (and surprisingly in some larger cars, since I drove a Hyundai Accent and that was fine). Is there plenty of room under the steering wheel and driver-side dash?

Well, don't expect the interior to hold up against you dog's nails. I dont think you can get away with any black interior of a car with a dog's nails.

As for driving position: I originally wanted a xA (mainly because it was $1200 cheaper) but when i sat in one (Im 6'3", 250 LBS)- I realized that the xA was not the car for me. I felt like I was sitting in a 1/10 scale Toyota Matrix. I quickly test drove an xB and bought it!

I love the xA's styling, dont get me wrong. But for a large guy like you (and a big dog) you might want to look around before committing to a xA.

Keep in mind the xB has a longer wheel base than the xA, and has more interior room......

 

hmmm....I'm 6'7" and drive a tC.......the xB is ALOT more roomy than my tC!!!!!!!

 

Thanks for the response. Right now I'm just looking around. Plus, buying a Scion in Canada doesn't look to be practical anytime soon.

 

Not sure about the dog either. The Scion interior fabric should hold up as well as any cloth interior I guess. As far as the driving position though, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. The seats in the xA sit up off the floor. It's almost like sitting in a chair more than a car seat. You're not down on the floor with your legs straight out in front of you like some cars. I have an xA and a xB. The xB is definately roomier...no doubt, but I don't think the xA is cramped at all. I think the interior of the xA feels like a much larger car than it is. Your best bet is to go sit in both. Drive them around and then decide.

 

Yeah, I'm planning on calling around and seeing if there are any in the area available for that kind of hands-on look.

 

I have a 90lb Rotweiller that rides around in my xA with the rear seats down and cargo cover installed. The interior plastic pieces have held up fine with no real precautions except telling her to lie down every three or four stoplights. She has scratched the rear bumper and the black plastic doorsill piece that runs along the bottom of the car. I would really recommend getting the clear plastic piece that covers the rear bumper and expect to replace it. The extension on the cargo cover that covers the rear bumper when loading/unloading doesn't work with a dog scrambling over it.

 

the plastic is not that bad for dogs. my puppy's claw's on the sharp side but it hasn't done any damages to it. i'd say get a xb.......

 

Get boots for the dog. Hunting supply places can provide them. Of course the dog might be particular about the style.

My dog has a scrap piece of plush carpet in my xA passenger footwell. Also a baby sized pillow. She does not wander about. A short lead keeps her in place if she takes a notion to move around at the wrong time.

 

I have a Weimaraner and she is about 60lbs now, I have a blanket over the rear seat and use her harness to seatbelt her into the car, no problems with tears yet, keep her nails trimmed and planning on getting a seat cover to help protect it. Was afraid to let her roam around with the rear seat down, the backs of the seats don't seem very solid, afraid it will rip through eventually.

 

I have a St Bernard who is growing like a weed and he loves riding in my XA....I just fold the back seats down and lay a blanket over the cloth and hes fine....
