Xb Door Speaker upgrade
I've installed my Pioneer Premium stereo unit and added a Bazooka subwoofer as well as dash and rear speakers. My dilemma is this: my replacement door speakers (from my last car) are the standard 5,25" and the hole in the door is 6". I can add a 6" component speaker and fill the spot and I get an adapter with the speakers. Now... where do I mount the tweeter? I have to admit I'm not really enthusiastic about cutting a hole in my door panel because I don't know how long I'll keep the car.
Has anyone done this that can offer some suggestions? I'm leaning toward biting the bullet and cutting away. I have hole saws and know how to use them! I suppose the alternative is to try to find an adapter kit for my current speakers to keep things nice and neat. I like my jobs to look factory.

what me & my friend did is use the 1" tweeter from the component set & use e thing sheet of metal or something to cut a plate to mount the tweeter. big opening, small hole, but its alright i really didnt care about that. But thats what i did for my car.
I put the tweeter in my component set above my speaker. It's about an inch above where the grille ends, and it's angled and fires pretty much right up at me. I'm going to relocate it to the absolute lowest point on the door panel.
I was going to put them in the stock locations, but that requires snaking wiring through the door gasket/harness tube which would have extended my 'it took all day' to 'holy crap it's taking me a week to install my freakin' speakers'.
I didn't cut a hole. My tweeters came with surface mount brackets. I attached them with screws.
I put the woofers in the normal hole... I actually used the factory speaker and gutted it with a dremel. My Advice is not to do this, but I did it. I will un-do it at some point and re-do it with some angled MDF/marine plywood or something.
I don't know about the dash speaker locations. I've heard they're good for tweeters (the dash in general, not in a hole an inch below the surface of the dash under a freakin' louver), and I've heard they're bad. you can't really go wrong by putting the tweeter right next to the speaker... it might leave the soundstage off, but a lot of modern headunits ahve time correction to fix that.
I say all this like I know what I'm talking about.
