38 a gallon? i think you might be slightly off. cuz that's pretty much impossible. you know it's an 11.9 gallon tank and the gas light comes on with 2 gallons left correct?

stock tires and wheels. and at the most that the speedo would be off is 4mph.
there is some tire slip at all speeds and it does get worse at faster speeds. A fraction of a mile per hour? Maybe that, maybe more. Who knows? The speedo will be fooled by that slip, natch.

In the little over a month I've had my box, I have put around 5600 miles on it. (My ex-wife lives in Kentucky, and I travel there two-three nights a week to watch my son play t-ball.)

Traveling between Chattanooga, TN and Elizabethtown, KY (right outside the gates of Fort Knox), I keep the speedo between 80 and 85 (this is the flow of traffic in the fast lane), and average 32 MPG. During this trip, I have to go up an over a mountain with a 7% grade, btw.

Just my own personal experience to throw in there. I'm running on stock wheels/tires, and filling up with regular unleaded.

I believe you. If I was able to get 35.5 MPG with my seats folded down loaded up with 100's lbs of IKEA furniture and climbing the monsterous mountains on I-17 in AZ, then I can easily see you getting 38.

Default backwards

I recently got 34 mpg city/mixed, then promptly drove it 200 miles on the highway at 70 mph and got 33 mpg. Too much speed hurts the box's mileage for sure.

This is all related to the deep gearing. It's the same reason I can be in 3rd gear before crossing an intersection - great for commuting, not great for highway.

screw being good for commuting it's the only way such a minuscule piece of crap motor can be remotely fast. racing is the reason for the retarded gearing

"Racing" in this car would be a stretch. I'd suggest the low gearing is simply a way to mask an engine with no low-end torque.

Are you complaining about the motor? I think it's a great motor, actually; it just doesn't have the grunt of a nice V8.

about your RS1--- Did I see it parked in front of a speed shop on Bird a month or so ago? Near the RR tracks? I was headed somewhere and saw a very sweet, big rimmed Lava parked like it was there as a customer draw?

I -think it was a speed shop; maybe because the Lava was there- it looked tuneriffic

yours?

Actually it does seem to be a great little motor.

It is tiny - smaller than a 2 liter Pepsi...

Considering that I at one point had a 2400 pound coupe with over four and a half times the xA/xB displacement of 91 or so cubic inches, it would be insanity to try to compare the performance of the two.

Considering the basic Scion engine is not much larger than the air conditioning compressor on that old coupe, it actually does a rather amazing job, especially in the xB, punching square holes through the air...

(BTW, when trying to punch those holes very briskly, I have gotten my xB down to 23MPG on one tank... it really had to work hard to do what I was asking of it. )

it's a pos as far as most 4 bangers go too. And I need speed so i race whatever i get my hands on .Yes I know thios is the wrong car , blah blah blah , it's brand new , has awesome astyling , will be reliable and was fairly cheap i had to get it.

and the old saying goes " it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than to drive a fast car slowly. "

that's because of the difference in final gearing between the auto and the 5 spd.

Yeah, but mine's a very relaxed automatic, hotbox05, and this was just highway travel... :D

It's different in a stick...
