It just makes our cars ever more head turning when cruising on the freeway hearing a monster commanding the lanes (especially with choice of exhaust!) Plus, MPGs are still relatively high at 70mph compared to other average cars.

i know, isn't it sad :-( you can't even listen to music and have a comfortable conversation in the b at freeway speeds.

it's really the only big thing i'd change about the vehicle. im at like 4000rpm at 75mph and it sucks.

Final drive is really low, that's why most complain to Scion to put a five speed auto in it.

The whiny engine compliments the wind and road noise at 70.

Default Im searching to see how to install 5 or 6 speed auto tranny

what can you do?
If any one with compatible tranny that will fit 09 or 10 xb let me know. I bilve with 5 speed auto I will be able to get 70M/H at 17K RPM that will put gas consumption at 50 M/H

Sorry for not resisting the urge to jump on that last post but.... 17K rpm would surely be something to see out of these 1.5 litre engines....

You're not paying attention. No streetable car engine is capable of spinning 17,000 rpms.

my car's pretty damn quiet compared to most stock econo cars and mine is slammed, intake, header, full exhaust..... TONE of exhaust and one's expectations of a 14k car is ya'lls issue here.

That sounds normal. The mpg sounds normal too. Don't waste your time/money thinking too much of it.

28mpg is low. I just averaged 33mpg going 73mph over the course of 400 mi according to my ultra gauge...

Doing some research on this subject and glad I ran across this thread. I bought an 05' XB new in the same year that has an automatic tranny and I just bought an 06' with a manual tranny. The manual tranny runs at higher rpm's than the automatic and I was just wondering if it is normal. I love both on them and plan on keeping them for a long time!

Same deal with my '05 manual. 65 mph at 3k rpm on interstate getting 34 mpg.
Around town shifting gears, getting 32 mpg. When I first got the xB I thought something
was wrong. I think as the car was designed for Japan first, city and rural driving was most important. A 6th. gear would have been nice for U.S.

Default overdrive on the XB

i read all of my replies, thanks! while driving say around 70mph, how do i "turn the overdrive off or on"? to tell ya the truth, all i do is drive, go 70, how does a person turn this overdrive on or off or should I even worry about it? i love the XB, but i guess i was expecting a less of a scream of a drive, like a smooth drive.
