Man, you guys are getting off EASY for your taxes and tag. Sales tax on my box is 5% in Mississippi, which was about $900. THEN, I had to get my tag, which was about $525, which I will have to pay every year when I get my tag renewed. Of course the tag will cost less every year b/c of depreciation. The tax only has to be paid once.

Just because it is classified as a suv does not mean the the taxes and insurance will be higher. A lot of places also put vans and suvs in the same classification. Most of the time taxes and insurance rates are based on engine size, driveline, theft rates, safety ratings. Such as USAA. They classify it as an SUV because the first 3 VIN letters indicate that. But that has no bearing on my rate through them. Which is obvious from paying $350 every 6 months for insurance with violations on my record.

In terms of tax revenue coming from xB's. . . you are really talking about pennies to the gov't. It's not a big chunk of money at all. It's worth a fight. Get the media on your side. . . it's an entertaining story, and people like to hear how the gov't likes to cheat them(intentional or not).
I wholeheartedly agree but my statement was directed at the defeated attitude I was reading into.
