That was a pretty good read. It's odd they didn't mention how much capacity the xB has with the seats down.

Actually, maybe only 1 Domestic.

Pontiac Vibe......Toyota Matrix...same-o, same-o.

Not sure where the Focus is made though. When you look at the whole picture, there isn't one fuel efficient car made in America. Except maybe the Dodge Neon, and everyone knows what a junker that is !!

Yamaha designed the engine for Toyota. So it's really a Yamtoytiac.

Hi,

Seems to me that the hybrids dont get all that great of MPG for the extra technology that goes into them. Makes me wonder what the repair costs for all that technology are when it breaks...and it WILL break...

The Ford Escape is actually designed and built by Mazda, with quite a bit of the hybrid technology being leased from Toyota. Ford calls it an agreement between Toyota, which basically means they bought the hybrid system, or parts of it from Toyota.

Hybrids do offer higher mileage, but usually not as high as the EPA stickers them at. Toyota will tell you when you drive a Prius that it won't get as high as mileage as the EPA sticker suggests.

Notice also that, in at least one spot, the article uses the phrase "traditional gasoline powered midsize SUV". I'm wondering if hybrids and diesels were excluded from this test.

there isn't one fuel efficient car made in America
That's a tricky statement! As someone else pointed out, you have to consider a lot of variations on the word "made" or "built."

Do you mean, literally, the country that the automobile was assembled in? If so, plenty of "imports" are actually "domestics."

Or, do you mean the country where the vehicle was designed? In that case, it's odd again - something like the Civic Si would be an English car.

Or, do you mean the country where the vehicle's technology was designed? Take the maztoyford mentioned above. ;)

Or, do you mean the country where the automaker is headquartered? And, is that one particularly relevant, if it's a different answer than all of the above?

I love all the space in the xB, but when you're hauling 2 passengers, I barely have enough room for groceries...

I'd love to remove the two passenger seats completely and mod the hell out of it!
