Yakima Rack installation
I am sorry if this has allready been covered in previous posts. I just got my XB last week and I LOVE IT. I didn't get the rack and now I wish I did. I am debating if I should buy the Yakima rack from the dealer and have them install it? Does anyone know how much they would charge for the actual installation.
It seems confusing when looking at the Yakima website. I am not even sure which bars, Qclips to get.

This is a very simple install. I would order it online and install it myself. I can get you all the part numbers after I get out of work if you would like. I have the Yakima rack with fairing and board rack.

^ Good place to order, good prices... there is a link on the right hand side of the page for a Yakima automated fit guide it works well for determining which clips and bars to order. If you are looking to order the fairing also I think I decided to use a different size than they recommended.

At the Yakima website:
Select - "Choose My Rack"
Enter - Make/Year/Model
Click - "Next" (Lower Right Hand Corner)
This gives you the base system you are eligible for.
Most cases it will be Q Towers. The base system includes crossbars and towers.
The crossbars and towers work virtually with any racks you want. You can get baskets for transporting large items/ski racks/bike racks/canoe racks...
Yakima has lots of different racks... they just slide onto the crossbars.
The rack from scion has an MSRP of $287. That includes crossbars and and Qtowers.
Yakima's MSRP for the same item is $247.
Remember you'll still have to buy the bike rack or the ski rack or whatever specialized piece on your own.
Use the Yakima webiste to find dealers in your local area. They should be able to help you find one for you car and get you the right ones (may even help you put it on for free.
Most rack systems these days are tool free.
I had a Yakima system on my Suburban during the ski season. With help from one other person I could have it up and ready to go in 10 to 15 minutes. 20 Minutes if I did it on my own.
My Point: Call Yakima (88
925-0703 or use their website. You'll save a bit of money. And the yakima rack is designed to be put on and taken off so it's not something you need the dealer to do for you.
Good luck!

I got my whole setup from rackwarehouse.com for a really, really good deal. Just follow their guide and they will pick out everything. The base system was less that $200 (clips, towers, bars) and then I got locks, Baskert Case, Basket Case Net, and bar fairing. That was another $150 or so....then I got Dakine rackpads from another place and a set of slightly used buttondowns off ebay for $15.
Took about an hour and a half to assemble and get everything lined up and isntalled, but the nice thing with the basket is that it ties everything together so it all comes off as one piece. I made some little marks on the gutters to show where to align the fron feet.....but I've never taken it off in the 6 months we've had it. It gets used almost daily.
