Hey everyone! My lease is up on my 2008 Honda CR-V and I am looking into getting a 2009 Scion xB. it was a fun drive, my only biggest concern is that is a FWD car, and I am concerned about winter. (I live in Indiana atm so winters aren't terribly bad)

A brief insight on winter driving and opinions on the xB in general would be great! Thanks!

Yeah its what cannon said. Technically its AWD but it only 'kicks in' when it needs it

 

AWD>FWD>RWD in the snow.
You're not going to have any problems with it.
I live in NY and we get some sh*t*y winters.

My girlfriend got her 2010 in early February and we had decent snow later that month (enough to strand my stock height tC in the driveway). She said that it was just fine. Even her dad was impressed with it, and he grew up on a farm in Iowa, so I assume he knows about driving in snow.

Oh no problem at all, I was just worried coming from a AWD-type car. The Scion I am looking at sits a little but lower to the ground, but if you get by in the NYC area, I'll be fine here. thanks for the insight, I have to make a decision this weekend

Edit: I've been reading to just have all season tires, maybe some sand in the back, and of course don't drive like a dumbass and you'll be fine.

You don't even need sand in the back, just be careful driving.

 

I live in PA and get bad snow as well. No problems at all. Just make sure to get good tires

 

As far as being lower to the ground, my girl got the RS7, which is lowered and has a lip kit. She did a little snow plowing, but nothing major.

 

Get a set of Blizzak tires and you won't know the difference between snow or dry pavement

 

Good to know, according to wikipedia, the one I am looking at being an '09 looks like it is an RS6

 

If the exterior color is Absolute Red with the paint code 3P0 on the driver door jamb, then it is the RS6.
