Exactly. I had fog lights on my last car but no spoiler. I now have a spoiler and no fog lights. The spoiler drastically affects the look of the car for the better and I don't even notice the lack of fog lights. Fog lights don't add a lot of functionality, especially with the aforementioned HID's, and add zero aesthetic value.

 

I should have been more specific. IF you're in an area where fogs are useful to you then do fogs. If not, I'd go HID's as mentioned, always been a huge advocate of them, I consider them a safety issue. I'm more about functional than aesthetics.

do you find that it helps keep the rear cleaner? i had one on my original xB and it seemed to help...

my '08 gets dirty very quickly in the rear w/out one...

It doesn't help at all. The OEM spoiler on the gen 1 was thicker and curved at the front to direct air down across the rear window. The gen 2 spoiler is much thinner and is flat or maybe slightly angled at the front so it doesn't do anything other than maybe keep the rear of the car more stable.
