waxing
You do not wax the trim or any plastic with carnauba wax or equivalent. For maintaining the trim, use Trim Detailer from Meguiar's or something similar that treats vinyl and plastic. Do not wax the headlight covers either, that is clear plastic and there are also other products that treat plastic headlight covers specifically like Plastic Polish for clear plastic from Mothers.
I hate to say it but I have gotten lazy over the years. Used to spend hours waxing and polishing. I now use products by Eagle One. After washing and drying my 2008 xB, I use Nanowax. It is simple appears to provide good protection and takes all of fifteen minutes. No white residue and you I do put it on the "black" parts and side and rear windows. Eagle One came out with a Gel Wax recently that is a little harder to use. I have put it on my Mini but it took longer so have not used on the xB yet. By the way, last weekend we were in TN and when we got back I had a lot of what I would like to call love bugs on the front of the xB. They literally washed off with water and a once over with the soapy sponge. I use the Nanowax ofter because it is so easy. I told my cousin about it and he uses it about every four months and his cars sits outside. He says it still beads up after that long. By the way, you won't leave swirl marks on your car if you use a microfiber towel to put on and take off the Nanowax.
Mick, I'll have to totally agree with you with Eagle One Nanowax. I use it for my 1996 Corolla and my 08 xD. Bug slpats, tar, mud, it all just washes right off with it. My Corolla has some black trim under the front and rear bumpers and the nanowax looks great on it. The only downside is the only place I can buy it around here is at Autozone, and they mark up the price a little bit.
