So i got a 2007 tc valve cover (i think) from a member here and slapped it on my box. Upon further inspection i did notice that the tc is different than the xb one. As you can see in the pics below. It bolts on just fine so that all i care about.

***EDIT*** so i know now the tc valve cove does not work with the xb coils. the xb coils are longer and thus a spacer is needed before you bolt the coils down. after putting on the cover 2 of my coils failed. so the dealer replaced and i put spacers down. a few washers so the coil was not bent or anything.

the 2007 tc cover seems to have a hach pattern molded in. also only 2 molded ribs where as the 2009 xb has no hatching and 4 ribs

Yeah, they are shaped the same with the excepting of the spark plug set up. The xB covers are raised a little bit over the tC covers. The spark plug coils/wires/whatever they are called are made different. I'd watch this.

 

i did notice that it seems like i have to tighten the coils down more over the xb cover. i might put a washer or to on the bolt so keep them at the right hight.

 

Wouldn't that put a gap under the coils though? Might be why you're having the bad coil problem from you're other thread?

 

i thought of that and looked at the O-ring around the coil. it still looked like it seals even with a spacer.if not i can get just about any size of gasket and o-ring through my work. And i put the stock valve cover back on to see if that was the cause and it still did not work. The stock cover is on now while it’s at dealer. Didn’t want to give a reason not to cover it under warranty lol

But yeah, I noticed the coils were different when I painted my xB's cover and my buddies tC cover at the same time. Didn't want to chance it myself cuz he had an extra one I could have used.

 

once i get my car back froom dealer ill put the tc one on again and see if it still works. atlest intell i can paint my xb one.

 

At least use some spacers (stacked washers) between the coils and the incompatible TC VC so you don't break the coils again. I doubt your dealer will be so willing to replace them again.

 

i dont think i broke them. i think they just happen to fail at that time. i did put the tc cover on and it works fine.

 

It sounds like a case of cause and effect but we can't rule out coincidence. Anyway the new VC looks great.

 

After reading up on it some more I think I agree. lol and thank you! I plan on something nice for the stock cover.

 

Chances of coilpacks failing of natural causes at the very same time the cover is changed closely approach zero. If it wasn't caused by installing them into the tC cover, then it's pretty much a guarantee it was something about the way they were handled.

 

ok ok...so i must have broken them...what the factory dont know dont hurt them lol

just an update. im still running the tc valve cover with no issues after using spacers. it stumbles and dies in the morning if it is not warmed up but i get no check eng lights. not sure if it has to do with the cover or not.
