Default 2010 xB engine pulses & drags

I have a 2010 xB with about 40k on it. last week I noticed that the RPMs were fluctuating while cruising on the freeway at about 70mph.

Basically the tach reading dropped from 2700 to 2500 - then back up - did this 3 or 4 times. Engine also dropped sped/power when this happened. I replaced my air filter but that's not the problem.

Isn't this car a bit too new to be needing a tune-up already? Could it be the fuel-injectors? Any other ideas? Should I get this into the service bay ASAP.

Thanks in advance if any of you have had this problem or have some suggestions...

You're still under the powertrain warranty. As long as you can replicate it with a technician in the car, take it in to the service department.

Ahh yes, you are right. 5 yr/60k. For some reason I thought it was 3yr/36k.

Thanks for the reminder!

Doesn't make sense when I buy my xB used I get a better warranty than someone buying new.

Care to expand on that? The only thing I can think of is that you bought a used xB from a Toyota/Scion dealership that included some type of Toyota Certified Pre-owned warranty. If that's the case, then the dealership had to purchase that warranty from Toyota, and buried the cost in the price that they charged for the used car. That's how all manufacturer certified used car warranties work.

I actually bought my xB at Stevenson Honda. This dealership gives you a lifetime warranty (drivetrain) on most of their used cars.

Nice, I definitely wouldn't consider that a common occurrence for used car sales of different brands than the dealership namesake.

They only covered used Hondas until two years ago. They also figure that their average cusomer keeps a car 3-5 years and will be back for another used car hence they'll never ever have to honor a lifetime warranty. Maybe 4 in 10 people keeps a car that long. Sorry to have hijacked your thread toddsta.

Were you on level ground when this happened? It sounds a lot like the torque converter locking and unlocking as it does when climbing grades. Mine does this too and it's perfectly normal for modern electronic transmissions. First the ECU will unlock the TC and if that's not enough, then it will downshift. When the TC unlocks, rpm increase as the TC slips.
