is the automotaci really only 4 speeds?

i have an 08 xB with an auto tranny. if im driving up a hill in 4th gear, and i push the gas just a little harder, it seems to shift into a lower gear, giving a little more torque, but then if i pop it inot sport mode, or '3' it seems to shift gears again. so whats the deal? 4 or 5 gears?

4 gears, but the 08 Camry comes with a 5 speed auto... That would be nice...

When you are in overdrive and you give it a little gas without the trans kicking down into third gear yet it feels like it down shifts and the rpm's go up, that is the torque converter unlocking.
