I just noticed this today. Cracks on the passenger side of the engine. Anyone have or had the same problem? Is only 35k miles 2012.

I would never think that something like that is cosmetic, however, I haven't seen anything like that either. It looks like something hit it and it spidered out. I'm guessing you're the first owner so no one had it before you, otherwise, I'd suggest that something internal tried to come out of it so they just rebuilt it using the same block. I'd have the dealership look at it and see what they think. It's a brand new car, your powertrain warranty is still good.

I just came back from the dealer the tech was a dick. Said it's from the casting mold and they don't come out smooth. And said with my headers it will be hard to warranty.

Put your old headers back on, and go to a different dealer and have it replaced.

I have that same spider web cracking, on the same spot on my 2012 Scion XB. I haven't modded anything to the engine that would make it do that.. weird.

I wouldn't worry. They are more than likely from the casting and don't go through. This photo is from an engine I'm rebuilding at work (air cooled Kawasaki) and I've found the same kind of cracks...only on the inside of the motor. Honestly, I see it all the time. This one motor has them in two places. The fact that another Scion owner has already reported also seeing this in the same spot has me convinced that it is not anything to fear.

On a hunch, I looked at MY engine. My XB has only 1,200 miles. Yes. Same marks. Chill.
