Stock axle-back? Excellent results either way. How much did the header add?

You could get ~6 free whp by removing the balance shafts. A few TC guys have done this and I plan to soon. Porting the TB should be good for a few more hp too.

Cool! I thought 6whp sounded too good to be true. Still, 3whp for free ain't bad at all. I also like the idea of removing a potential failure item. The balance shafts are the weakest link in the 2AZ-FE.

How's the vibration? Porting the TB should get you some more free whp. I didn't dyno mine before but I plan to get on a dyno after I delete the balance shafts. Good luck on 180whp.

Thanks! Did you tap the oil passage and install a bolt, install a plate over it or just JB Weld it? I was thinking about making an aluminum plate to cover it and using the adjacent bolt hole to attach the cover plate with some hi-temp rtv to seal it.

i'm thinking i'm getting about the same just never gotten a chance to get it dynoed.

what is the purpose of the balance shaft?
are there's any negative for removing it?

Balance shafts are there just for luxury so you dont feeel vibrations form the engine. I want power so forget about luxury the vibration is not bad at all and they have been cases when the shafts break and trash all the engine.

Here's a good link for balance shaft info. FWIW, the only XB2 engine failures that I've read about were caused by faulty balance shaft bearings. The balance shafts rotate at twice the crank speed and their only purpose is to counter engine vibration inherent in in-line 4 cyl engines.

wow removing the balance shafts seems pretty risky for maybe a few hp... I tend to think the engineers making our cars put these in for a good reason and i am not a fan of removing parts of my engine/tranny that the factory installed...

Good luck to all of those who do this...
