Why not just get the standard lightweight crank pulley, and skip the UDP? Won't that allow the engine to spin more freely due to the decreased rotational mass of the pulley without reducing alternator output or requiring a different belt?

I'm a bit ignorant to all this, and have thought about this mod myself, so any feedback to these comments is certainly appreciated.

I was actually looking at doing the whole set of pulleys that NST offers, but I wasn't sure whether is was better to stick with stock diameter on the main drive pulley or to use the underdrive. From what I have read too, is that anything over 15% under driven will be bad for the electrical system and such. But the NST, if I remember right, is only about 10% under drive. And if changing the all three pulleys would make the car more drivable around the city, then that too is relieving some of the everyday stress of driving I imagine. And excuse my ignorance, but what is NVH? I read these post several times and couldn't figure it out and I am pretty mechanically inclined and pretty good at deciphering abbreviations. Thanks for all your feed back.
The UDP's will be a good mod for you. I have always liked the little bit of HP they free up and the added response they give. If I didn't have to search and search for the right belt for the UDP I would have said it was the easiest and best mod I did on the xB for daily driving.

NVH is what TrevorS stated but should not have even been brought up in this thread.

IMO a standard lightweight crank pulley only serves one true purpose....A lighter crank pulley for those running a supercharger. The other purpose is for those that believe the rumors and misinformation that UDP's are bad.

First, thank you for your interest in our site and products, we appreciate it.

Second, our pulleys for the Scion tC have been used by ScionLife members since early 2005, and these same pulleys are also compatible with the 2nd gen Scion xB.

The answers to all the questions you have raised can be found in our comprehensive NST thread, as well as customer reviews, questions and comments...
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/sho...+comprehensive

No one has ever reported any issues related to NVH, nor to accessory output (alternator, a/c, etc) when NST pulleys have been used. Please feel free to visit the thread I listed for you and read for yourself.

If after reading through the thread, you have any questions or want to chat, please feel free to give us a call and I'd be happy to chat with you personally.

Thanks again, good luck and have fun with all your projects!
