Default Throttle body spacer

Has anyone had any success with using a throttle body spacer for their xb2?

People have successfully "used" them for the tC... but don't expect any gains from them. I believe the initial comparisons on the tC actually showed that it LOST power with a TBS.

Haha wow that's not good! I was hoping for at least a small improvement in mileage.

Anyone else know or heard of any use of the TB spacer on our xb's?

Think of it this way... If it were that easy to just add some fuel economy to it, wouldn't they include something like it from the factory?

From my own research, the only consistent result appears to be the presence of a "supercharger like" whistle at higher RPMs, even though actual vehicle speed might be slow (some find it a little embarassing). I understand pickup truckers tend to get a kick out of it, but it quickly tends to become rather annoying to many others.

Still, again from my own research, Design Chaos has a TBS that has been dyno determined effective on a particular car engine, think it was a VW, but don't remember exactly -- have seen the dyno sheet though. Trouble is, how a TSB may or may not perform in one engine design/configuration, isn't a reliable predictor for any other engine design/configuration. They were really designed for the days of carburetors, and also work reasonably for TB located injectors, but most recent cars have neither.

If you want to try it, please give us an accurate (as in unbiased) pro/con evaluation, and we'll be happy to listen !

TB spacers have more of an effect on carbureted engines. Fuel injection not so much.

This is true, since the fuel is before the tb spacer on a carb vehicle it helps. On fuel injected fuel is after the t/b spacer. You might as well add a extra inch onto your intake pipe, thats all it does.

OK MY 2 CENTS , NOT ALL ARE THE SAME. i HAVE AN AIRAID ONE AND IT DID ALOT ON MY HEMI. I ALSO JUST INSTALLED IT ON MY XB2 AND IT WORKS. GREAT ON LOW TO MIDRANGE SPEED. ELIMINATES THE LAG WHEN ACCELERATING. Like I ssaid AirAid only, the other brand i tried was a helix power tower by spec perf and electrncs , that one sucked !

But you also swapped in a high flow air filter at the same time. Until you go back and seriously test the xB2 with only the TBS added, you aren't in a good position to claim the improvement is due to the TBS.

You can say that all you wish, but I know from performing intake area mods (including a TRD filter) on my own xB2, that intake air flow means plenty to lower torque performance. Your Hemi is a very different engine design from these cars and there's no particular reason to assume the same result -- or even similar. I'm not saying you're wrong about the TBS, I'm just saying you've yet to say anything that clearly points to the TBS as opposed to the other changes you made at the same time.

Success as in the car still ran okay? yes. Success as in it provided any measurable benefit? NO. A properly designed TBS has the potential to promote better air/fuel atomization with a carb or TB FI but it can not, will not and does not do anything for port or direct fuel injected engines.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it until proven wrong.

No but I'd consider trying one if any proof existed that it actually delivers on Airaid's unsubstantiated claims of "tremendous torque gains" and "unbelievable performance".

I searched the Airaid site for the dyno sheets that prove these claims but didn't find any. Before and after dyno testing is the only way to accurately measure this. There are far too many variables in a time-distance run.

I found something interesting when I googled for "throttle body spacer dyno results".

http://hummerforums.com/forum/showthread.php?t=5512

"The spacer makes no HP on the Dyno. It makes all of it's power in torque in the low end. If you haven't noticed any power on the Dyno or the track then it's doing what it's supposed to. You would not see any gains down the 1/4 mile or increases on the Dyno. The idea of the spacer is to improve overall drivability and fuel mileage." -Airaid

A dynamometer measures torque, as well as HP.

if it adds torque , i would assume that it would make a difference in the 1/4 right?

Well i can tell the difference in teh xb and teh hemi. so it works, i am a believer.

you never answered me, do you have an airaid tbs?
