It's likely due to emissions testing again. The tC charger was delayed for over a year.... so hopefully TRD finds another way to increase the xB2's output...

I'm quite surprised at this though =[ You'd think they'd find a "happy place" for the ecu reflash to ensure 50-state legal

Hopefully some enterprising soul will offer a kit to adapt the $2000 TC supercharger to the XB. How hard could it be to make a different air intake system for the XB? I've considered doing it but don't really have the time, tools or facilities to produce them. I may do a one-off for myself though, when I have the money for the SC.

Well, the hardest part is the ecu. Without a flash, etc.. your air/fuel would be way off. (unless your going to put on a fuel managemeny system) then you should just go turbo anyway.

An air fuel controller wouldn't be an issue. You can use a piggyback controller (choice of the s/c Solaras was the Apex'I S-AFC II).

The physical unit that *should* be used is the tC 07/08 unit. The intake manifold design is shared between the tC 07/08, xB 08 and the Rav4 4-cyl models.

So the price of having a s/c xB is... well... yea... out there. A turbo would be a more wallet-friendly approach, though I'm sure sure that everyone would want a turbocharger.

Why couldn't you flash the XB's ECU with the TC programming that comes with the TRD SC? It's the same engine/transmissions and approx. the same weight.

Each ECU has a.. .well... "serial number" that tells the flasher what applicable updates are available. You are unable even unable to flash an ecu that's for the same vehicle if different applications exist.

The best example comes from the Tacoma. There are about 8 or so ECUs available for the 05+, 5 options are for the 4.0L V6. Granted there aren't any flashes directly related to this one yet, but it's just an example of multiple ecus being available for the same vehicle/engine/trans combo.

Thanks, I didn't know that. It's a shame that there are plenty of resourceful people hacking firmware and flash programs for $35 DVD-RWs, etc. but not for ECUs. It seems like it should be easy enough to hack a flash program to remove Toyota's ECU flash protection schemes but I'm not the guy to do it.

So then, a piggyback ECU controller would most likely be required to make a TC SC work on an XB2? Would a $300 Greedy Emanage be adequate?

The biggest issue would be fuel management... so a piggyback unit would help out.

We still have to make sure the charger fits though. There may have been a slight change in brackets or other items used for the installation to ensure fitment in the xB...

does it matter who installs the trd supercharger? would it void warranty if the folks at toyota arent doing it?

The warranty is valid for 12 months from the date of purchase if installed anywhere (besides the dealer)

If installed at the dealer, it'd carry 12 months/12,000 miles OR the balance of your powertrain warranty, whichever occurs first.

I'm really saddened to hear that there will be no xB SC. Maybe there is still hope. It seems that the TC having the same motor would have a similar set up for the SC. The main concern would most likely be a the computer issue's. Does anybody know what the straight dope is on this question?

The kit does not fit properly, it interfere's w/ passenger side motor mount and there is no way to reflash the ecu yet. It has a different ecu than the tC. I'm sure TRD will fix the problem and let us all get our hands on one.
