Now I have blue back lit window switches to go along with my blue dash,
A/C controls, gauges, & P R N D S.



A bit hard to see in the picture, but I wanted it subtle & NOT very bright.

looks good but i think you should've tried to swap that orange light to blue as well (if possible) but overall looks really good and nice choice in color =P

I'm not a huge fan of cathodes, LED's, neons, etc. But this is a nice modification.

I like your gauges, as well. I'm planning on getting mine done, too. But instead of tattoo stuff (cause I have enough actual tattoo work...) I'm going to get suicide girls...

 

yeah... but those leds in there, like the 'MODE' light on your steering wheel & the leds inside your stock radio are them super small bugggers & I have no experience with those... so I'll pass on messing with those type leds... But i do like the contrast in orange/blue in that switch area...... thanks for the compliments!!!.. jh

how hard is this stuff to do your self? I can put gas in a car and that is about it LOL. I wanna add lighting to areas that were missed in the design, IE: wndow sill area, shift area, cip holders, etc... Kind of what you see earlier in the post. How hard is it, and what kind of cost & labor time? I don't wanna screw up anything, ya know? I'd wanna go with orange lighting since I like te factory orange currently.

well if you like to tinker, then it aint hard. just a bit time consuming. You say that all you can do is put fuel in, so I can't advise you to do this type of stuff yourself.
Cost is minimal for LED's, resistors & wire. Labor, I dont know as I have done all this myself. I figure if I had to hire out for side jobs, I'd want 20 bucks an hour.. Free for friends & club members. good luck.. jh

 

I may do this with prewired 5mm LED's from Oznium... Cause this is a really sweet and subtle lighting mod. I definitely dig it.

You mentioned you used PLCC2's? I'm still in awe at how you actually held them to solder on resistors. Things are teeeeeeeeeny!

 

xseverdveganx...... you get the smallest gauge speaker wire you can find.... & seperate it back about a half inch.....
then strip each back about 1/8 - 1/4 inch..
Put a dab of solder on each stripped wire....
Then put a dab of solder on each end of the plcc...
(Use tape to tape it down so it dont move when you drop the solder on)
then line up the wires to the plcc & touch up the joints.. BAM........
(When you tape them & the wires down so they dont move, it makes it VERY EASY!!!)
You put the resistor on the other end of the wire before you hook up to 12 volt..
& it dont matter which wire you hook the resistor to.....
Cause if it dont light up when you hook up the + & - ..
then you just reverse them & BAM.. you on!!!!

try it, dude. you'll see.. plus.. you can put these tiny plcc lights in many places that you cannot fit a 5mm...
For the switches, I actually put them outside of the finger cavities.. taped them to the outside of the bracket houseng ..between the bracket & inside of the door..
First drilled a small hole for the light to shine thru.........
lined up the plcc on the other side of the hole till the light shined thru in the correct angle..( do this in a dim light)..
Duct taped it down...... & hooked it to the + & - .........

ps.. one little trick......
to put the dab of solder onthe plcc.......
get a drop of solder on the tip of your iron..
hold the plcc with a tweezers.. & just "swipe" the tip of the iron along the silver of the plcc rather quickly..
just give it a "swipe"..
flip it over & do the same to the other side..
Now you got enough solder on the plcc for the solder on your wires to stick to...
easy peasy. you'll see.......

 

That's a sweet mod, but it'd bother me that the "auto" still is in orange.

Hopefully I didn't transition that quirk to you =P

 

Thanks Moose... You know I did have the circuit board out of theere looking at that amber 'auto' light,,
It's a wierd looking led, that's tall & domino shaped...
it's like a small domino that stands straight up & I've never seen one like that before.
So I left it alone..
now that I think aboout it, I probally could have removed it & put a 5mm in there, but I got scared & didnt want to loose the light entirely...
IF, YOU get in there & do it, take pictures & make us a DIY & I WILL attempt it agian!! Only if you or someone does it first...

But I'm a bit hesitant to do it myself. I don't think I've ever seen an LED that could be described as domino shape...

 

I think the 3 pack LED's that I used for my HVAC ***** are somewhat domino shaped...
