Hey guys, first post here!

I bought a new black 2012 Scion xB back in March in Canada. Just last month though I moved from Canada to California. Importing was a headache and all, so I'll spare you that.

Once I finally got my beloved xB here I started to consider getting an FRS. So my wife and I headed to the local dealership. While waiting for a salesman to notice us, I checked out the 2012 xB they had on the show floor. I was surprised to see that the radio was different! As far as I can tell, my xB has the "2011" Pioneer stereo, with an external Blu-Logic bluetooth installed.

I'm a big fan of bluetooth audio, I was already looking to upgrade my stereo just for that feature, but it turns out that 2012 Scions were supposed to come standard with bluetooth audio capable stereos.

Did I get screwed? Or is it that all of Canada is getting screwed by getting last years stereo?

If I want the newer stereo, how can I go about it? I asked a local dealership and they said it would cost +$1k, crazy!

Canadian version might be a different spec

the upgraded pioneer premium radio can be bought thru trdsparks.com. It comes with bluetooth, pandora, has 3 sets of rca's on the back. I think its $899 on site with speakers

and i dont know if all scions in 2012 come with the upgraded premium pioneer, I know my rs 9.0 came with it

Not all scions come with the upgraded stereo. you should check first on your spec sheet. IM sure some dealers would be like OOO yaya it has it...not. Either way, you can get far better stereos aftermarket that can do more and costs less.

For that much money you could get a truly badass aftermarket unit.. just sayin..

Here is my issue.... I just purchased a 2012 xB and have the basic head unit in it, which sucks by the way, with plans of immediately putting an aftermarket one in. Problem is that there seems to be no dash kit available. I am a custom cabinetmaker so i am thinking that i could fabricate something out of 1/2" plastic and will wrap it with DiNoc carbon fiber decal but...... I am faced with what wiring harness if any I can go with. I really don't want to cut the factory clip off. Any suggestions?

Crutchfield makes a wire harness adapter that fits perfectly. Being a fellow woodworker, I have no doubt you could fabricate a HU bezel, but I'm wondering how neat would the carbon fiber decal would "sit" on the corners: you'll need to miter the corners. Another problem is the actual mounting of the HU to the face and dash. You may consider buying a install kit and working your way from there.

there is a metra dash kit for our cars out. all 2008+ kits ill fit your xb

Perfect!! I'd much rather start with a kit as well. I've been on a few different threads and most guys say use the 08-10 kit. Thanks all for your great advise.
