Default Dome light/ map light mod

If you want your map light to mirror your dome light for more brightness while still working independantly with the switches, all it takes is a transistor and resistor. Toyota has used this same basic setup for a while now on a few different cars and instead of posting a super how-to write-up I'll just give a link to an old write-up for a Tacoma that works the same way. If you understand electronics and are the slightest bit handy, you will have no problem with this one. If you DON'T COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND THIS MOD, please don't PM me 4 years from now asking for a wiring diagram or something. Find someone locally with a basic electronics background and ask them. PLEASE! Believe it or not this link will contain ALL the information you will need to complete this mod if you study it carefully and use your noggin. OK, with that out of the way here's the link: http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/t91499.html

i am in process of completing this mod, i can't wait! i only wish that we could somehow tie the dimmer switch on the dash into this system so we could actually turn on the lights without having to reach upward... now that would be a great mod ;)

some quick notes... the maplight on the xb only has a two prong terminal, there is no third bent out, however there is a third wire which is bent back that does not connect to the terminal...

also, having trouble finding the wire heading to the dome light... i will have to get in there with a flashlight and see if i can find it.

No need to do that kind of mod for xB...
I've used 36 LED module on each of the light...
They are crazy bright..
Two 36 white LED module on the map light..
And one 25 low profile blue LED module for middle dome light...

You can use the white low profile 25 LED module
They are 1/4" thick, so it will fit in the rear dome light housing..
E-mail me and I can get you one.... Sean@LEDmod.com

Perhaps I'm out in left field, but I have plenty of light in my xB2 when I enter in the dark. I've changed all my interior lights to LED and the dome illumination works just fine (12 power SM LEDs). I'm not suggesting this map light mod is bogus, just that it may not be all that meaningful in practice.

It's not really a brightness issue, I have the mega LED dome light from Oznium. I just think it would be a cool feature, the more light the better.

Yeah, put diodes on the map lights so you can use them without triggering the dome light.
