Default Doors won't lock from inside

Hi everyone, this is my first post here but I've been reading posts on here for a little while now. I have a question and was hoping that maybe someone could point me in the right direction.

My wife has a 2008 xB, and the power door locks will not lock from inside the car. If you click on the lock button, it automatically unlocks again. She is able to lock the car from outside with the key.

Has anyone had this happen to them or know how to fix it?

Thanks!

so what you're saying is that...you're inside the car, you hit the power lock button located on the door panel. the doors lock, and then without doing anything, like opening the door or putting the car in park or in gear, the doors automatically unlock? does it happen immediately, or after some delay?

hmmm...very strange indeed, but it is an 08, it should well within warranty unless you're over 36k miles.

does it happen when the keys are in the ignition and the door is open?

if yes, its a safety feature, basically to prevent you from locking your keys inside your car.

yeah, if the keys are in the ignition, and you hit the power locks with the door open, it immediately unlocks them. i forgot about that.

i found that out when i was parked behind my restaurant and i wanted to go inside and grab something i'd forgotten real quick, and i just wanted to lock the doors with the engine running since my gf was sitting in the car and could let me back in, and i noticed that the car kept unlocking itself.

yeah, toyota has been doing stuff like that for a while i guess. our old 1987 toyota pick-up truck doors were like that. when getting out, you had the lock the door, and then close it while holding the door handle up. otherwise it would unlock as you closed the door. handy little feature so you don't get out and accidentally lock yourself out.

Well the brand is directed to the younger generation, they probably assumed we're idiots and tried to make Scions as idiot-proof as possible.

then that means it is time for a warranty repair i suppose. it isn't supposed to do that, it is a 2008 model. so it should be covered.

yep, definitely not suppose to do that, there must be something faulty with the ignition switch and your car thinks the keys are still in there!

I was sitting in my xB in the campus parking lot and I tried it, I really didn't know it unlocked itself with the keys in the ignition! haha
