Ok I want to swap out the "MODE' button LED on the steering wheel.. Can someone or a group tell me HOW TO get to this LED?? Does the plastic peice just 'pop' off??? Anyone who can help, please do...or point to a prior thread with this info on it.. I ran 4 searches & came up MT... thanks jh

pull the airbag, yank the trim piece, pop out the small board and swap.

.... Nice thread-jack!! check here for a 'semi' DIY.. If you read the entire thread 2 or 3 times completely, you'll know how to do it..

Go buy a T30 bit, disconnect the neg battery cable, look on the back side of hte steering wheel. Youll see two holes, in each is a torx bolt. Loosen each one, they will not come out all the way, there is a keeper holding them there, just losen em and the air bag will lift off. now, remove the screw on the left trim piece and pull the trim piece straight towards you (gently please) Un plug the wire from the steering column and there you have it. just pop out the small circuit card. You'll need an LED in a 1206 package (really freakin small). You do not have to unplug the airbag, Assemble in reverse order.

Not really. I've swapped the 1206 with a PLCC2, it works!

NO sorry that's just how it was design.

 

DIY: There was a post on this site about someone who replaced their steering wheel. IIRC, it's almost the same as the instructions above, just with pictures.

Mode-to-Mute Button: Couldn't he install the PAC part that allows Pioneer HU's to utilize the Wheel Controls in aftermarket setups to change the mode button to Mute? Not sure, just guessing/asking.

yes He could utilize a PAC module, but he'd have to change out his H/U to one with a wired remote jack in the back.. The Stock or Premium does NOT have this. I can see a workaround for miketf1 though...... Instead of pushing the 'mode'
button for a half second to get a mute.......... push the 'vol down' button for 2 seconds. your sound will go down real fast..That button is about a half an inch from t he mode button to the left & down... Plus a hella lot cheaper than changing out your H/U to get a 'mute' function..... UNLESS you want more power, more features & better sound, then yes... change your H/U out.. But if you want to keep your steering wheel controls, you must choose a H/U that has a 'wired remote' mini plug jack in the back.. that's where the PAC SWI plugs into to actuallly control the Unit from the steering wheel buttons.. good luck ....jh ps

No need to apologize, mandode.. you didnt do anything wrong.. You were absoutly right about ulilizing the mode button as mute in AFTERMARKET situations. I just didnt read your post thourouly enough.. I apologize to you,...My bad... All me... I hope miketf1 realized that he can only do his thing if he buys & installs an aftermarket H/U PLUS a PAC SWI controller... But you know something??? I have that & you CANNOT have both 'mode' & "mute"... you have to choose one or the other when programming the PAC & 'skip' the one you dont want.. I chose 'Mode' over mute in my set up....... Sorry for being crabby!!!!.. jh
ps.. thanks to livbwitz & dasaint for helping me the info I needed.... now the thread can go where ever it wants to.....

 

thanks for the kindness jimmbomb! learned much from this thread. i actually didnt know that i could mute by holding the mode buttons. way to rtfm...

and the led mod tips are fantasic. very soon all the lights with be blue!
